Surprisingly, I'm not a fan of 55g Topre.  I also have a strong dislike for MX Clears.

"Hate" is a strong word.

I do not hate any switches or keyboards.

I like MX reds the least, out of all switches I have in keyboards.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

All stock MX and Gateron switches save for one. I think Gateron Reds are the only stock switch I would be OK with. Everything else either needs lube, different springs, or in some cases even stickers (even if they only have minimal impact).

Realized that I hate MX Blues... after getting a board with them *cry*
I ended up going back to my MX Browns board because I like the low tactility and lower force required since its easier to press, which is probably the opposite or what many people like.  Still waiting on that 87U in the mail for my first taste of the topre punch ^-^

I've only felt MX switches, nearly all of them aside from white, but i haven't felt grey's or reds on a full keyboard.

From my limited experience with switches i really dislike black, red, and brown. I just dont like linear switches, and brown is too close to a linear for me.

My favorites are, in order : Green, Clear, Blue and tactile grey.

Custom 60% with Cherry MX Clear

Now, for GoNs.

They feel fine, but look cheap. The lighting is dumb and makes them look bland. They are overpriced, and the wait time for a new one is unsavory. if you MUST go that route, Winkeyless is far superior in almost every way, especially customer service. From experience. I personally am not a huge fan of either though.

Massdrop shipped me a 35g Noppoo Topre clone (instead of 45g) and that was awful. You could sneeze and that thing would type "hjdpensien".

Cherry MX Whites are just mushy and randomly click/don't click. Very annoying to use.

My brother had this one membrane keyboard that he got with his computer which just was the worst membrane keys of any keyboard I have ever touched, the keys would stick and then they would suddenly drop and the keycaps were horrid aswell, completely flat making it hard to know where your fingers were on the keyboard without looking down, and seeing how it was the biggest keyboard I have seen aswell with a million macro keys for no reason made it even harder. it would also have a slight electrical buzz if you decided to have the backlight on... just the absolute worst. I cant remember the name, I must have tried to bury it away in my memories.

*Edit* I also have only tried Greens (which were on my first mechanical keyboard) and then browns, going back to greens a couple of days ago I feel that browns are bad. dont hate them though, what I do hate are laptop keyboards, I cant recall having used a laptop with a good keyboard in it.

I hate the new Apple MBA keyboards.

I strongly dislike HHKB. I tried it a few times, started to like it, then really liked it, but then got over the novelty and now it's just an overhyped rubber dome with better than average build quality.

I do hate those stupid floppy rubber keyboards. But thankfully I almost never encounter them.

Edit: hopefully less offensive now

not so much a keyboard, but the (lack of) stabilizers on so many keyboards.
no stabilizers, badly-working stabilizers, crappy-feeling stabilizers.....
i have a few very nice keyboards, but barely use them because i get tired so quickly of the nasty stabilized keys.
and whoever thought it was a good idea to put a huge shift key on a keyboard, and then don't stabilize it!? pfff :( despite its size, it still only functions if pressed exactly in the middle. should've just gone with the Model F XT approach!

I strongly dislike HHKB. I tried it a few times, started to like it, then really liked it, but then got over the novelty and now it's just an overhyped rubber dome with better than average build quality. No better than my old Microsoft rubber dome. So many people have drunk the cool aid though.

it's silly to assume that everyone who likes the HHKB only likes it because of the hype.
i can understand why you'd dislike the hype around it, however.

that said, there's really nothing wrong with (liking) rubber dome.
any "keyboard newb"-guest that i've had over, who would type on a bunch of my keyboards out of interest, every single one of them liked Topre over anything else i have, including cherries, complicated alps, F-BS and M-BS. (are they all HHKB hype cool aid people now, too?)

so...
is it too expensive? maybe
is it hyped? definitely
but is it possible for people to legitimately like the HHKB? well, absolutely!

don't become a 'HHKB hater' man, it's silly.

I only really HATE rubber dome keyboards, and even some of them I think are really good. I don't really hate any switches, even though I do dislike a fair few, and I do hate how unfairly popular and overhyped some of them are. There are a lot of modern mechanical keyboard reviews out there by annoying technophiles who just blab on and say exactly what their sponsor wants them to and it's all uninformed BULL**** D: .
Check my keyboard video reviews:

I intentionally used "dislike" because I am not a hater of the HHKB.  However when I hear/see people say "I gotta get a HHKB" even though they've never used one does make me skeptical that they have any legit reasons other than hype.  I said "so many" instead of "every". Yes there are legit reasons for liking it, and there are several members that I deeply respect who have far more knowledge than I do who love the HHKB. They aren't the ones who I'm talking about.

Anyway I'm sorry if I offended you.  I did not mean you personally when I made the cool aid comment. Maybe I should have just left that out. If people like it then great!  If you like it then great!  My main point is that I strongly dislike the HHKB because it fails, in my opinion, to live up to the substantial hype it has.  I dislike the keyboard, not the ones who use it!
I'm back.

I can sort of type on anything, as long as it doesn't stick/grind too much (like some worn-out domes, dirty Alps SKCM Black, various mostly no-name clone switches or obscure "stabilization" mechanisms, that don't really work at all) and does register keystrokes properly.

However, I have a strong dislike for various aspects of keyboards, such as
  • sticky worn (esp. ABS) keycaps, when my fingers get sweaty a bit;
  • overly bright indicator diodes and as well most backlight implementations (the blue LEDs combined with shine-though windows in some keycaps on Noppoo Choc Mini were a terrible idea, I'm sure there are similar cases, but I avoid them, I even took the effort to desolder surface-mount LEDs from my USB hubs);
  • most clicky key mechanisms (modern plate-mounted Cherry MX Blue/Green sounds cheap and annoying, buckling springs and complicated Alps SKCM White are way too loud for me, and some late Alps clones are even worse);
  • gritty switches (modern Cherry MX are borderline, modern Cherry MX Brown, stock MY and any Kailh switches feel much worse, so do poorly stored Alps, not to mention all sorts of vintage Asian atrocities);
  • key mechanisms with a stiff peak at the top of the keystroke, followed by harsh bottoming out (esp. Apple Aluminium scissor switches, stiff Alps/clone switches ranging from complicated Alps SKCM White to APC Clicker semi-mechanical switches,… or, ahem, HHKB from my past experience);
  • full-size keyboards, when I have limited space (i.e., almost always) and/or want/need to use a right-handed pointing device;
  • the standard asymmetrically staggered layout with no hand separation, non-remapped Caps Lock and AltGr too far to the right;
  • space-saving "optimizations" of the standard layout, such as an arrow cluster embedded in the bottom-right corner at the cost of moving "slash" and Shift keys;
  • nearly all default embedded "function" layers in compact keyboards (HHKB Fn layer is a prime example of this).

I strongly dislike HHKB. I tried it a few times, started to like it, then really liked it, but then got over the novelty and now it's just an overhyped rubber dome with better than average build quality. No better than my old Microsoft rubber dome. So many people have drunk the cool aid though.

Sacrilege!

But I respect your opinion.  :-X

Just be glad Demik is muted.

Lol he loves his HHKB but he did own at least one very nice non-Topre board that I know of, maybe more.

Out of the ones I used (brown, red, black, blue) - black.

My fingers hurt after long hours on the PC back then.

Bought a fully assembled ergo clear on my early keyboard days, sold it within days after receiving it

Don't think I would have expected you to say that. What did you not like about them?

I can't stand to type on MX Blues. It just doesn't seem right to me. Also, I hate typing on boards that don't have a plate. Feels mushy.

Idk man :(
It's like... mushy... thock but no thock, actuation point is strange
Like everything at once but half it all

But I blame my fingers, these fingers can only go with clicky stuff and lubed vintage blacks only....

*currently typing on Filco Fukka alps and loving it  :-* *
