not so much a keyboard, but the (lack of) stabilizers on so many keyboards.
no stabilizers, badly-working stabilizers, crappy-feeling stabilizers.....
i have a few very nice keyboards, but barely use them because i get tired so quickly of the nasty stabilized keys.
and whoever thought it was a good idea to put a huge shift key on a keyboard, and then don't stabilize it!? pfff
despite its size, it still only functions if pressed exactly in the middle. should've just gone with the Model F XT approach!
I strongly dislike HHKB. I tried it a few times, started to like it, then really liked it, but then got over the novelty and now it's just an overhyped rubber dome with better than average build quality. No better than my old Microsoft rubber dome. So many people have drunk the cool aid though.
it's silly to assume that everyone who likes the HHKB only likes it because of the hype.
i can understand why you'd dislike the hype around it, however.
that said, there's really nothing wrong with (liking) rubber dome.
any "keyboard newb"-guest that i've had over, who would type on a bunch of my keyboards out of interest, every single one of them liked Topre over anything else i have, including cherries, complicated alps, F-BS and M-BS. (are they all HHKB hype cool aid people now, too?)
so...
is it too expensive? maybe
is it hyped? definitely
but is it possible for people to legitimately like the HHKB? well, absolutely!
don't become a 'HHKB hater' man, it's silly.
I intentionally used "dislike" because I am not a hater of the HHKB. However when I hear/see people say "I gotta get a HHKB" even though they've never used one does make me skeptical that they have any legit reasons other than hype. I said "so many" instead of "every". Yes there are legit reasons for liking it, and there are several members that I deeply respect who have far more knowledge than I do who love the HHKB. They aren't the ones who I'm talking about.
Anyway I'm sorry if I offended you. I did not mean you personally when I made the cool aid comment. Maybe I should have just left that out. If people like it then great! If you like it then great! My main point is that I strongly dislike the HHKB because it fails, in my opinion, to live up to the substantial hype it has. I dislike the keyboard, not the ones who use it!
you didn't offend me at all!
the 'cool aid' comment just made your post look like it was a 'hhkb-hater post' (to me, at least).
so i figured i'd take my turn to defend the concept of preferences. but of course i know that the HHKB is hyped, and i also know that plenty of people will buy, and even defend it because of hype - but not me! besides, i am not that crazy about the HHKB.
anyway, sorry if i came off offended.
i see your point and i agree about the entire hype thing. it's a real shame.
and i can also understand that you feel it didn't live up to its hype, because it doesn't. in the end, it's just another keyboard!

thanks for the reply!
cheers
For switches, I don't like really anything linear. I have tried Cherry Reds and Blacks and didn't care much for them, but I haven't tried any Gateron switches so I can't say anything for them.
not all linears feel the same (at all)!
for example, i'm not crazy about cherries, but my complicated green alps are a different story. i also have hi-tek linears, which are also way different in sound and feeling!
of course, maybe you just don't like linears at all, but disliking blacks and reds certainly does not mean that you dislike all linears!
