« on: Tue, 05 April 2016, 17:58:56 »
Hi guys. I need to buy an affordable wireless keyboard with the following:

- Must have trackpad.
- MUST USE Win 10 gestures.
- Illuminated
- Wireless

Please make some recommendations based on my preferences. Nothing expensive. Thanks

What is a "Win 10 keyboard"?
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

If I understand things right, Microsoft has new recommendations for touchpads for Windows 10.
The recommendations for Windows 8 were to emulate a mouse: two-finger scrolling -> scrollwheel and pinching -> Ctrl+scrollwheel.

"Windows 10 touchpads" are supposed to also be able to report actual touches, with the interpretation of them being done by Windows, which should therefore be able to support more gestures. These include three-finger gestures. Up: See all open windows, Down:Show the desktop, Left/Right: Cycle windows

Not necessarily.  And the keyboards section does cover pretty much everything i.e. "dome, scissor, capacitive, mechanical, buckling-spring, laser, membrane, hall-effect, etc.".

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

If you smell trolling then you shouldn't be on my thread. You questioning the motives of my thread may constitute trolling in and of itself in which case you may be breaking forum rules.

I didn't intend to start a flame war, sorry if you think that way.

I wasn't aware that there are specials "windows 10"-things keyboards with the gesture thing.

No problem. Yeah there are special Win 10 trackpad gestures like swiping up with 3 fingers that shows all open apps. I need these functions for my line of work. Its vital to me. Thanks for understanding.

It is interesting to hear about new developments in the keyboard world, even if I don't want to use them.
Most of my keyboards don't even have Windows keys, so obviously something like this would not have hit my radar screen.

It looks like all these new-fangled boards have scissor switches, so maybe the twain shall not meet.
And it makes me curious as to whether any "gaming" keyboards will start expanding in size to accommodate a relatively large touch pad.

Would it make more sense to buy a simple trackpad with those features and then a seperate keyboard?

Very good idea! I never thought about that since I never knew they made separate, stand-alone trackpads. If that's the case, can you please suggest some of these trackpads that use special Win 10 gestures? Thanks!

Well, not sure it it would work with win10, but I know that people had success with getting the Apple Trackpad to work with windows.

Personally, I tried switching from a mouse to a trackpad but it gave me RSI-feelings so I stopped using trackpad on the desktop.
