Costar Stabilizers Issue with Thick Keycaps
« on: Thu, 07 April 2016, 15:01:09 »

Hey guys! I am currently figuring out the issue I have with my Quickfire Rapid (Cherry MX Red). The other day I lubed all the stabilizers on the keyboard (including the spacebar), and with the stock ABS keycaps, the keystrokes are buttery smooth and very satisfying. However, when I acquired a batch of Vortex Doubleshot PBT Keycaps, there is a drastic change of feel for the keys with stabilizers beneath them. For example, my enter key feels very sticky (felt like it was rubbing against something underneath). Even when the stabilizers lubed, it still feel sticky and inconsistent.

What is the best way to resolve this issue?

You can test by putting the stock keycaps back on.

If buttery smoothness comes back, then the keycaps are rubbing.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I filed some keycaps and it fixed my problem.
