All Magicforce 68 users please help me
« on: Sun, 19 June 2016, 11:43:54 »
Hey guys so three days ago I just got my first Mech, a MagicForce 68 and I am loving the experience so far! Until yesterday when I had to hard refresh firefox.

This task is achieved by the combination Ctrl+F5. When I was trying to do such key combination I tried Ctrl+Fn+5 (which seems logical because Fn+5 = F5).
So when I pressed Ctrl+Fn+5, my computer got a Ctrl+5 and when I released the 5 and then pressed it again my computer got a Ctrl+F5 (like it was supposed to get in the first press).

I used this website to verify the keys my computer was receiving http://en.key-test.ru/

Here is a video of me trying to perform the combination Ctrl+F5 but getting Ctrl+5 and then Ctrl+F5 just because I released and pressed 5 again. http://a.pomf.cat/dvpzkv.mp4

All the other modifiers work just fine (Shift, alt), for example if I want Shift+F5 I can press Shift+Fn+5 and it works as expected.

Also if I turn the dip switch 2 on (switch Caps Lock with Ctrl) and use Caps Lock+Fn+5 my computer gets a Ctrl+F5 as expected. If I use the right control it still doesn't work.

So I ask all the Magicforce 68 users to perform this simple test:
- Go to your browser and have 5 tabs opened, and select any of those tabs except for the 5th one.
- Press Ctrl+Fn+5 and if it switched to the 5th tab you may be experiencing the same problem I am, to be sure release and press 5 (keep pressing Ctrl and Fn when releasing 5) and check if the window refreshed, if it did then you have the same problem I have.
If it didn't changed to the 5th tab and refreshed when you first tried it then please tell me what am I doing wrong?

I really need your help guys, since I don't know if it is my keyboard problem or if it is a generic Magicforce 68 problem.
Thank you very much, hope you can help :)

Only backlit Magicforce have dip switches.
Doesn't happen on mine (no backlighting), the page simply reloads.

I tried this out. It moved to the 5th tab without refreshing. When I repeated the same key combination while on the 5th tab the page refreshed at that point.

Apparently only the backlit model has this issue, thanks guys for the help, I am returning my keyboard today :( I can't have it this way, maybe I will buy the non-backlit version :3

When I press Ctrl + FN + 5, it goes to the fifth tab. But if the aim is to refresh the current tab/page, I just press FN + 5 and that does it for me. I'm using a Chrome and an IE browser. I don't recall having had to press Ctrl to refresh a page though.

I'm using a Magicforce 68 with white LED backlight, btw. The only switch I turned on was swapping the FN and Win keys.

patriqdesigns is talking about more than just a page refresh.

A hard refresh is a way of clearing the browser's cache for a specific page, to force it to load the most recent version of a page.

Have you tried pressing Fn first?  I know it sounds silly, but if the firmware uses layer-based logic it might be waiting for you to press the Ctrl key that lives on the Function layer.  In which case, you'd need to activate the Function layer FIRST in the key combination, making it Fn+Ctrl+5 instead of Ctrl+Fn+5.

Disclaimer: I don't have a Magicforce board so I don't know for sure that it uses this logic.  Just a hunch.

You are correct. FN+Ctrl+5 will give the desired behavior acting as if Ctrl+F5 was pressed. Otherwise, I experience the same behavior the OP posted as well. Mine is a backlit version.

The issue seems to stem from holding Ctrl+FN. If you release each time, nothing "weird" happens.

Edited after more testing.
