Recommendations for numberpad?
« on: Wed, 22 June 2016, 21:40:18 »
I want to get a numberpad but I'm not sure which I should get. Any recommendations? I'm considering the Filco number pad to match my Filco TKL.

Sounds like a perfectly reasonable choice.

Yeah but it's the only one I've considered.

The Realforce one seems a tad expensive for what it is.

I guess there really aren't many on the market.

I don't know where to find the ADESSO at the moment.

I have the RF 23U and really like it. Yes, it's on the expensive side. If you're an accountant living on your numpad, definitely worth it. I don't use mine that much, but still happy I bought it. I had an Adesso before the 23U that I returned. Didn't like the layout. Note the position of the -, +, =, / keys does vary by manufacturer. Numpads are not standardized like keyboards, so check that out before you buy.

Here's a review comparing the 23U and a Filco. He's the most boring guy you'll ever listen to and you'll want to beat him with a bat before it's over. But at least listen from 5:15 where he talks about n-key rollover. And then hit him with a bat.

+1 vote for Leopold

The newest versions output actual, legitimate numpad scan codes.  Don't let anyone tell you different.

Good to know. Just a year ago, that wasn't the case.

I bought an RF 23U to go with an RF 87U and yes, it's expensive, but the quality is second to none. I wouldn't have any reservations about buying a Filco numpad, though.

Since I'm looking to get an FC660(C/M) soon the Leopold doesn't sound like a bad idea. I really and probably don't need a numberpad however. I'm a software engineer so I'd only need one when tweaking algorithms or graphics which isn't often enough for the need to spend this much money on it. But with that sentiment I shouldn't be looking at keyboards and keycaps to begin with =P

There are a lot of cheap number pads to choose from on Amazon.

I have one of those Jelly Comb numpads some people have recommended. It outputs proper numpad codes and it only cost me £17. It's not the nicest looking thing and it has an odd layout but it's not bad for it's price I guess. I'm in the middle of swapping out the outemu blues to cherry reds at the moment and it has an odd set of caps on it lol.

$59 really isn't that expensive.

You can hold out and get a Ducky Pocket too, if that was interesting to you. Odds are it'll be a bit before it's available though.

You don't need a case.
