Cool! I just bought one exactly like it on ebay for $22 and thought that I got a pretty good deal, even as a parts donor.

it's a point of sale keyboard with a magnetic strip reader (that thing in the top left) for swiping cards.

Nice find! I wish I could find cheap keyboards, but everywhere I've gone has just been cheap rubber dome junk. My dad found a nice Dell rubber dome once, but this is much nicer.

Does the trackpad work properly for you?

the trackpad worked just fine, but I already took it apart, and stripped the board.  I had no use for such a big board.  I just used it for the switches.

Dude... The geek in me would love to play with the MSR - maybe use it as a means to change keyboard layout by swiping different cards, or modifying logged in user or whatever!

Oh cool, one could use Cherry Tools to reprogram all the extra macro keys. All kinds of OS compatibility. Windows 98 -> Windows 8 + Debian/SUSE (Linux 2.6.27) Neat stuff and definitely an awesome price

Point-of-sale keyboards are very plentiful and cheap. The trick is to find them before they get worn out.

At what point would you consider them "worn out"?

"Worn out" is when the keyboard smells like hotdogs. Hotdog smell is the point of no return
