Keyboard for killing zombies
« on: Thu, 30 June 2016, 08:43:05 »
Must be sturdy enough to kill at least one wave of zombies, and then be functional to allow me to type twitter updates and facebook updates about killing said zombies.

Please advise.

Pshhh IBM Model M - say no more!

Above comment from a person who has never touched a Model F.

Model M is the cheap plastic knock-off.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

The Model F122. It would probably still work afterwards, too.

If you don't mind a few chunks of plastic from the top case flying off, if it is as brittle as I hear it is.

It doesn't need the top case, nor do you need the top case to kill zombies. The pan is genuinely enough to cave someone's head in, I reckon :p .

An alternative would be an OmniKey, I think they'd hold up quite well too, or a ZKB-2.

Boards heavier or much thicker than an F122 would probably be impractical, tbh. I think a beamspring would be too unwieldy to, well, wield.

Haha, I'd submit a beamspring for consideration as blunt force weapon, but it sure can be a pain to just carry one around. :P

I have a DAS ultimate 4 that feels pretty hefty. Plus the cable is attached so you could swing it around as a weapon.

Those god awful metal keyboards used in kiosk machines. I won't have any qualms about using it, unlike a beamspring or model f.

But... if zombies can't figure out how to open doors or climb through windows, how can they figure out how to crack skulls open to get to the good stuff? It'd be easier just to eat the gooey eyes, or the limbs.

Hahaha those dumb zombies.

What about "Straya"?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Yall talkin bout IBMs, but those all require 2 hands if you were gonna swing them around trying to kill zombies. I would rather have 2 all-aluminum monarchs, for the length, and dual wield them like swords. no F-row = ez one-handed grip

Maybe a Devlin, actually. They're about as hardy as keyboards can possibly get. (All-metal, including keycaps).
Check my keyboard video reviews:

I had a Logic Controls commercial/industrial keyboard (metal domes) often used in restaurants. It was at least as massive as a Model F 122-key and there were no small parts to go flying off.
