Do you lube your Topre switches after silencing it?
« on: Mon, 15 August 2016, 18:57:32 »
I bought Hypersphere's rings and I plan to install them on my Topre soon.

But I was just thinking, to install it you have to take all the switches apart, do you lube the sliders after you take it apart?  Or just straight pop it back and call it a day?

I didn't lube all my sliders, but I did grease my stabs for a now-rattle-free Novatouch.

I just silenced and lubed my realforce 87U two days ago! When you install the hypersphere rings, you pretty much have to take the entire keyboard apart. So I took this chance to lube everything up, including the stabilizers. It will be worth it if you do.

You can check this thread out: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=34332.0

Some people seemed to use a mixture of different lubricants.. I'm not sure. But I used Krytox gpl 205 I got from Amazon. It's a thick lubricant that works pretty well on topre switches in general, in my opinion.

For sure, those two should always go together.
All those keyboards will be lost in time....

It's so much effort opening the whole board to silence, might as well do it.

add me to that list. I end up doing both when I take apart a torpe board. Just do it.  ;)

I have a type-S. I've already lubed my RF87U before but that was with EK MechLube 2 (red one). I regret adding landing pads though.

Is the Krytox GPL 205 the most recommended?

lol I'm wondering about this too, it's a lot easier for me to get EK MechLube 2, and cheaper too.

Anyone know if this will work?

lubing topre sounds like adding sugar to coke because it's not sweet enough.

i can't recall the Krytox mix but in my experience, using medium-viscosity lube works best. Don't ever use the most viscous mix because it'll make the keypress all mushy and will be hell to remove. Also, unless you're very careful and measured, using the most fluid makes a bit of a mess. I've applied em all and found the medium works fine, producing un-adulterated keystroke  :))

So medium viscosity is the GPL 205 from Krytox? Or is that the reason why people preferred the mixture of the 103 and 205?

LOL I second this sentiment, I end up modding it without lubing it because I got lazy.

And it's pretty much as good as it was before (stock is non-lubed).

Though maybe I should've lubed the stabilizer wires but that's about it.

:P
