M122 case on F122?
« on: Sat, 27 August 2016, 23:13:28 »
Considering my f122 is coming in the mail soon, and I am interested in customizing it alot, I want to preserve the original case. Could I swap the top housing from a m122 onto my f122? I would rather not paint the original case if at all possible.

Quoting me causes a posting error that you need to ignore.

The first link, the wcass version, is superior to mine (the 2nd link) and he made it happen with a 2nd-generation case, too.

That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.

If I use a first gen case with 3 step legs can I still use the metal bottom housing?

Yes, but it requires additional fiddling. The "spine" piece gets superseded and the F uses machine screws with actual metal nuts embedded in the case, whereas the M screws tap directly into the plastic.

If your F case is broken, you may need to do it, but it is a kludge to just do it without a good reason.
And also, Cindy and/or Lot_Lizard may have some extra F-122 case shells available for cheap.

I saw that, but when I looked hey were sold out of top housings. Mayybe when cindy gets another load of f122s I can convince her to sell me a top housing. For now, Ill just order a m122 and try it. its not like there expensive after all.

I did this exact thing recently with a 1st gen M122 case. It wasn't complicated, but it pays to have a very sharp scalpel. There are a couple of plastic spacers in the M case that need to be cut off.

I used a couple of those cut spacers from the top part of the case and epoxied them into an F case. I also needed to make the tabs in front of the case thinner with a felt dremel add-on. Some care needs to be taken, but it's not rocket science :). I could then put an M122 into that F case as well to complete the switch.
