Ah so you were the person that sniped me in the last 5 seconds... growling noises

It's alright, I forgive you this time. Nice snag, I was sitting there watching it to make sure nobody outbid me and it was gone before I knew it :p

It's fine, I just got a Blue Switch Model F (5640987) for $35 yesterday so I knew I couldn't get lucky twice in a row, haha.

I'll find an F122 like this one for a lower price later ;)

By the way, it wasn't 5 seconds.  It was 3.  :p

Per fohat.digs, always (tool-assisted) snipe.

$100 is a fair price for an F122. It's probably best for both that it didn't get out of hand above that :) .

It's a fantastic keyboard, though. Everyone who's serious about keyboards should have a Model F, and IMO, the F122 is the best of them.

The complete function keys and blue sub-legends made this a desirable one.

Sub-$100 F-122s are getting rare.
"Starting in 2011, the deficits again started to shrink. During Obama’s term  the deficit was reduced by $900 Billion  before finally in 2015 the GOP managed to wrangle a “reconciliation” bill out of Obama where he again cut corporate taxes, as well as made permanent some of George W. Bush’s original tax cuts. This is the year everything reversed. Before this, under Clinton, Bush and Obama the deficit in almost every year was gradually decreasing. The balance we had of taxes and the economy was bringing the deficit down, the money coming in was slowly catching up with the money going out until 2015. Trump’s subsequent tax cut has continued the new trend even after the rest of Bush’s cuts have since expired. Obama had an average GDP of 2.3%, with 11.6 million jobs created and unemployment peaking at 10% in 2009, then falling to 4.3% in 2016. If we had continued on that downward deficit track, we would have again reached balance and another surplus in 2017-2018.

That... is a thing of beauty. It almost makes me want to drop the $200 on one of the ones that are on eBay right now.

Do it.

Those ones from Orihalcon are not pretty but getting one with an xwhatsit already professionally installed is a huge plus.

Message him directly and he will probably discount at least the ebay fee.

+1 to the 107-key recommendation. I think the only thing better is a beamspring, but you sacrifice ergonomics and only the rarest of beamsprings have metal cases. 4704 Model F is the finest noise machine out there.

I second fohat's suggestion. I've purchased several converters from Orihalcon and found his work to be first-rate.

OK, you guys persuaded me. I shot him a PM on DT and we'll see what comes of it ;D

Also, fohat, in case I do get one of these boards where would you recommend looking to find someone to sandblast it for me? It doesn't seem like there's a metalworking shop around here :(

I've had 3 Model F (2x AT, 1 XT) that I gave away or sold.  This will actually be my forth but first F122.

I took it to a place that restores old cars. They often have to remove rust or fabricate replacement parts. If they don't do it they will know someone who can. This place had a $65 minimum and actually said that they should have charged me more, because they re-did it a couple of times trying to get it consistent, but they let it go at $65.

The real reason I did it was because I wanted to see a true metal finish. Knowing that I was going to have to paint anyway, I would have saved the money. But the results were really sweet ....

Bought it from him off of DT and not on eBay so I got a better deal on it, saved about $30 incl. shipping.

F107 FTW!

I don't get it.  Why do people like the F107 so much?

1. Model F
There exist other Model F.
2. Super heavy
F122 and beam springs.
3. Model F
4. ANSI layout
F11 and F12 are crying.
5. Model F with a thick die cast metal case
Shipping nightmare.  :p

It's all pros and cons. F122 are not all metal and not as heavy, but they are indeed quite nice.

Beamspring are not ANSI (and nearly completely inflexible layout unlike an F/M), ABS caps (which I like but some do not), unergonomic, difficult to find replacement parts for, and unreliable (their PCBs are more sensitive to dust and they are less airtight).

All are great keyboards, but different keyboards.

My 107 is boxed up tight and I don't think that I ever weighed it, but I doubt seriously that it weighs more than a 122 and probably weighs less. The "metal" case is very lightweight and not thick, while the 122 has a solid steel bottom pan.

The length of the 107 allows it to have all the horizontal areas of the 122, that is all the horizontal areas of standard ANSI plus left function keys. I found uses for the extra spots around the arrow keys for "media" and "print screen" type uses.

And I love left function keys. The only "higher" F key that I use is F11, so I remapped F9 to F11 and F10 to Windows, and all is well.

That's what I'm planning on putting there, volume up/down, play/pause and what not. I'm just worried about having enough horizontal desk space  :p

I think that both of these are high. I am pretty sure that I have weighed F-122s, including cords, at about 3.75 kg, and I really don't think that the 107 is much, if any, more. But I may be wrong.

I stand corrected. I must have been weighing one of my modded 122s without cable, etc.

My kitchen scale registers a 611347 from 7AUG84 with original cable at 4147 grams (9 lb, 2.5 oz) and the cable itself weighs in at 105 g (4 oz). That probably includes an ounce or 2 of waffle rubber padding in the bottom pan.

I got both F122 and F107 in a single package a couple of months ago. This was a fun package to receive :). I can confirm that F122 is around 4kg. F107, because of its metal top case, is even heavier, around 4,5kg.

Interesting mod, I've never seen that before. Is it supposed to prevent the barrels from touching the foam?

The foam completely disintegrated.  I am using the straws as a spacer.

Wouldn't expect that to work well.  Only partially support the bottom of the barrel and nothing for the top, cantilevering them a bit.

Hmm, well that's disappointing because I was considering trying it. I guess I'll just get myself some replacement foam for my F107, whose restoration is underway.

How heavy is the keyboard?  We're all interested in a measurement.  You could check the shipping label, which usually records the weight.

Shipping label says 12 lbs or 5.44 kg, if you take out the packing materials you'd probably end up with ~5 kg. Not sure how accurate that is, though.
