Supposedly they are as well built as the M. Different feel off the keypress by all accounts though - they use the removable 'Brother Switch' BS.

This is the reason I've been trying to stay away from Yahoo Japan. I just knew once I quit looking something like this would come up making me waver in my resolve to save for a μTRON. Must resist because at 8,000 yen it is going to be hard to not bid this one up a little and see if I can get it. Besides it would be cool to have a Model M webwit does not have :)

kishy is like the ultimate loser, lol
No future and proud of it too. Like going to vintage car forums and loudly proclaiming you'll buy a Ferrari for $10 after endlessly harassing a seller, and that this all makes you a god instead of a cheap piece of boring, non-buying crap, who wants to tell you over and over again about what he is not going to buy because he is too cheap. Interesting, tell us more! Not! In the meantime this ******* is harassing small vendors because that is his attitude towards hard working people who are not ultimate losers, and who don't have an ambition to be the same loser in 10 years.

Most people don't even pay what Kishy pays for old keyboards. And I'm sorry to say but someone paying less for computer input devices is not what determines if they're a loser.

Even I recognize that this (either one of the 5576s actually, particularly the big one) is an opportunity that may never happen again. The problem is of course a language barrier, above all else.

That and the region restrictions they like to do.

Not that one, that one will not go for 16 EUR..

They got some pretty rare keyboards there. Oh wait.

I'm surprised you have not grabbed that NIB Model F that has been listed for months. But then again it is a little expensive :)

I was not interested in the one you got but depending on where that Space saver goes I may bid on it.

Honestly, I would prefer Japanese or Korean keycaps... at least over the Chinese alternative.

I'd love to see more front-of-keycap lettering-- a la the old Commodores and Atari XL series.  They could put hiragana or hangul there and nobody would say 'weeaboo'

Yeah the big one.
Who wants some red cherries?

Interesting but I don't really buy full size keyboards much any more. But still at that price I will keep an eye on it and see where it goes because I need a traveling companion for another NEO Counter Strike I picked up. After that first one sold for like $600 more of them have shown up which is good because the price has really droped because those that really wanted one grabbed one of the first few that showed up. After this flurry of selling I bet they don't show up again for a long time mostly because not very many where made (only a few hundred of them).

All kinds of strange boards but you really have to research them to know what it is you are getting which can be hard. This little OKI/JBS Telemation I'm typing on now is very rare and quite unique. The biggest problem is figuring out what is worth getting and what not to wast your time on so I've mostly concentrated on Topre boards.

I was pointing that question towards how US and EU are skewed towards older keyboard stock in that regard(mostly due to region restrictions).

Ah so you mean new boards verses old crusty cool boards?  As far as new goes there are quite a few Cherry boards and some Alps but I have not really dug into them so really could give no pointers. Also as many here would tell you most of the new stuff is Costar produced like the Filco boards but not all.

In short, yes.

Longer explanation, it's that there seem to be less "good" boards coming to the US/EU directly unless you count Unicomp (read: w/o importer).

Unless this has been discussed before, I'll continue such discussion in another thread (Discussion here).

Japan and Korea seem to be the main market for fancy new keyboards. In the US/EU, it's comprised mainly of crusty old programmers (and wannabe crusty old programmers like myself) who miss their old IBMs.

Well, count me as one of them, except you could add "...and NCRs"**

See my previous post's link so that this doesn't go too much further off topic.

** - NCR before they were acquired by AT&T GIS.  Not that there weren't good models (e.g. my West Germany-built G81-3000 rebrand), but the only notable stuff IMHO are their Dynakey terminals.

Good grief, there are as many Realforce boards on yahoo japan as there are Logitechs in North America/Euro eBay sites.  Too bad I'm not a L-user...  I like straight, Model M style enter keys.
All 45G Realforce 91U

Good grief, there are as many Realforce boards on yahoo japan as there are Logitechs in North America/Euro eBay sites.  Too bad I'm not an L-user...  I like straight, Model M style enter keys.

I'm "Enter-Key agnostic" - I'll take the "abomination" double-row Enter keys as well as the "orthodox" flat ones.

That, and some of the more exotic "double-row enter" keyboards** have more keys to remap as desired.

** - the ultra-rare 124 key Japanese terminal board recently seen on Yahoo Japan, for example.

Not really if you did not notice the vast majority of those boards are being offered by Japanese shops at new prices not end users selling used products. There are currently only a hand full of actual used ones from individuals and most of the time you don't see that many of them. I will admit that in the last few weeks though the NEO Counter strike which I have never seen on Yahoo Japan and if you search old auctions never before on Yahoo Japan has all of a sudden shown up. Why because the first one that showed up sold for almost $700 USD so those that had them pulled them out of the closet and decided to sell them and at that price I would be tempted as well. You really don't see older Topre boards up for auction very often. The ones you used for examples are some of the few that are actually used boards except for the Just one.

All 45G Realforce 91U

Nope this is a standard variable force 91U not a uniform 45g board if I remember correctly that is. Just is a Japanese shop that had there logo stuck on the board not really a OEM board because the Realforce name is still on it. This is just old stock that a shop is trying to get rid of and not really at much of a discount either.

The NEO is from an individual the 108 is from a resaler (used computer shop).

Just like the US the vast majority of the boards on Yahoo Japan are junk rubber domes do a search using "キーボード" to find most of the keyboards. It will take you all day to go through the result from that one and most of them will be junk rubber domes.

I don't speak Japanese (unfortunately) but the Google translation of that page says it is
"All key 45g, a uniform load" in the description.

Well they are correct like I said I think because Just had 4 of them made 2 uniform 45g and 2 variable force ones. This particular board is the NG22J0 which has lasered keys and uniform 45g force. Take a look here near the bottom and you will find the part number. You will also note that only 300 of them where made.

Somebody buy the keyboard in the OP and sell it to me.

PM me how much you are willing to pay for it and I might. But be warned it will cost considerably more than the winning bid price because you have to go through a broker to get it and shiping will be in the $50 range. But either way I'm keeping an eye on but I bet the real collectors will wait until the last hour to make there move. That First NEO that showed up went from about 7,500 yen to 60,000 yen in the last hour of bidding. That Japanese space saver is really rare so I bet it jumps as well.

EDIT: Looks like the collectors are showing up it is now sitting at 20,500 yen with 8 hours to go which means it will go higher. Sorry ripster this one will go higher than I can cover right now but PM if you are serious.

RDJACK.. I crown you Topre King, destined to bring oneness with cup rubber to every foreign land.

I would love to try a uniform 45g Realforce (HHKB layout won't work well for my job).  I've been going back and forth between a variable 87u and an all 55g 87u since last Monday and I can't choose a clear winner.

Try ripsters mod your key weighting but I have to admit it is for the brave only :) If that Just board was not priced so high I may have tried to get it but as it is I will not.

the "Good feeling of oneness with cup rubber" is very addictive once you achieve it. But the vast majority of those with a Topre may never get that feeling because they switch boards to much to really allow their fingers to truly learn the switch. But if you are one of the lucky you will never go back. For instance ripster doesn't believe there is such a thing because he has never achieved it but those here that have know what I mean. Well enough of that I could go on but I better stop I don't need ripster mad at me :)

RD - Nah, that's OK.  Thanks for the offer though.  I think these guys are supposed to be a bit stiffer than the Model M - too stiff for me - more of a collectors item.

I thought they where supposed to be lighter? But like you my only interest in it would have been as a collectors item and it has gotten two expensive already for me just to get it so it could sit in the corner gathering dust. I like to use my collection :)

It's funny how the loudest detractors of Topres are also the ones who have never tried them, and therefore don't really have much to stand on.

I didn't say anything bad about Topre in that post (this time).  But it's funny how the biggest Topre fanboys sound like scientologists when telling people not immediately impressed by the Topre feel that they just need to take a longer way in order to achieve the higher states of "oneness with cup rubber".  I can't help but be reminded of cultists and audiophiles.

Scientologists will tell you too that you have to try it in order to really understand it.

I really feel sorry for you lal. To think that you compare me to the evils that have been done by cultists the world over is really disturbing. I'm just a guy that really enjoys keyboards and that is it. I'm sorry that I happen to enjoy a keyboard you don't approve of but that is the way it is. I'm no audiophile but I do like to own high quality equipment when I can afford it.
