Some questions about topre
« on: Mon, 03 October 2016, 16:15:40 »
So the other day I was browsing through eBay and came across a topre keyboard listing. I'm fairly new to the mechanical keyboard game (only used cherry blue and green before) but topre has always intrigued me. So I pretended I did not see the price tag and just finished the transaction with my eyes closed. Today I finally got the keyboard (it was shipped from South Korea) and needless to say I was very happy. However I still have some questions:

1. The key caps are dark grey and blue. According to TaoBao this is so called the "anniversary edition" of topre realforce, but I cannot find any evidence on the box itself. As far as I know the 87 keys version did have a anniversary edition few years ago and have the exact same color scheme, but there's not much information about 104 full keyboard. On the other hand, Leopold have uses the exact same color scheme on another board of their with cherry switches. I guess all I'm trying to ask is, does the 104 full board really have an anniversary edition?

2. The board I got is an all 45g silenced version. I know there's also a regular "non-silent" version, is it refer to the 55g switch or it has nothing to do with the switch but only with the board?

3. I saw some reviews and unboxing videos on youtube and all of them has a piece of paper inside of the box as either an manual or warranty card. However there's no such thing in my box, after I take off the seal there's only the keyboard itself in the box. Is it normal? Or did I potentially get screwed by a fake keyboard?

Thank you very much for all the help in advance. Really appreciate it.

BTW, if the board I got is genuine, I finally get why it's so difficult to describe the feel of the switch as it's really something totally incomparable with cherry switches.

Silenced is unrelated to the weight of the switch. Yours is genuine, just not a 10th.

A 10th anniversary would be designated on the labels on the KB & box.

Thank you so much! I guess you can't always trust TaoBao... Well at least they have the same color scheme.

Also, is their a significant difference between silenced 45g and regular 45g apart from the sound? I did some research on this forum and it seems that different people really have different opinion about this.

I've never been the same room as a silenced Realforce. I do, however, own both types of HHKB and between those there is a difference in feel. The HHKB Type S switches have a more precise feel, for lack of a better term.

Emmm.... I do like a crispier response bottom out but it might just be me not getting used to the topre swithes, or it might be the difference between 45g and 55g, I guess I'll never find out until I get another one.

Speaking of which, Elitekeyboard just had a new batch of topre and I'm trying really hard to not to click that sweet "add to cart" button...

Anyway, thanks so much for your help!

I just realized something, on elitekeyboard's website it says only the space bar is abs. However after some testing it feels like the right shift, enter and backspace are also ABS, is that the case on yours as well? Thanks.

All caps except the spacebar are PBT.

those keys just feel slightly different because they have a bit less texture to them than the other (1U) keys. i'm confident they are PBT because mine don't show any sign of wear after so many hours of use

I have two Realforce boards, a silenced and non-silenced, and any kinesthetic differences are practically imperceptible to me.

It just feels odd when you have two different touch on the same keyboard, especially at this price point...
