Problem with Satan GH60 and the QMK firmware flasher
« on: Mon, 07 November 2016, 11:36:37 »
So I have a Satan GH60 board. I have been able to flash it using the TKG flasher (https://github.com/kairyu/tkg-toolkit) just fine, only to realise the under lighting LEDs used aren't compatible with it. I contacted the guy that made the board and he said to use the QMK firmware flasher (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=82505.0) and he whipped up a .hex file for me. I can load the program just fine, and I can select the .hex file fine. Once I've done that, it tells me to 'Press RESET on my keyboards PCB'. So I press it... and nothing happens. It still says to press it and the 'Flash keyboard' button is still red, meaning I can't hit it. It's worth noting I'm on Windows 10, and I've tried the program on several other machines (all Windows 10). I have no idea what could be the problem.
If any of you have any idea, please ELI5, because I'm still new to all this.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

It sounds like a driver problem. The driver for the controller chip is not installed. A regular GH60 has an ATmega32U4 but I don't know what chip is used in that keyboard.

Do you know how I can download the controller chip driver?

Well, as I said, I don't know what controller chip is used on that PCB. If, as you said, you can contact the person who made the board they should be able to tell you. Or someone else here might chime in. I don't know anything about the Satan GH60.

Here it is in a nutshell...

Windows sees your keyboard plugged in, along with your mouse, etc

You press the reset button and the keyboard controller performs a switch - it used to identify as a keyboard & now it identifies as a controller chip

Windows sees the keyboard disappear and a new device appears. This new device is the controller chip. Windows sees the controller chip but, without a driver, doesn't know how to communicate with it.

Device manager called it 'ATm32U4DFU', so I guess that's the chip.
It says all the drivers are up to date. Any ideas?

I'm not running Windows here. I don't know if this site is trustworthy.

I downloaded the driver. What do I do with it? How can I apply it?
This is what the folder looks like: http://i.imgur.com/7AcMmwr.jpg
Sorry for sounding like a retard. Again, I'm new to all this and just want my LEDs to work :(

This is risky because, as I said, I'm not running Windows here...

Open Device Manager & find the controller chip

Right click & tell Windows you want to install a new driver (or something like that)

Tell Windows not to install automatically (or something like that)

Click on something to let you navigate to that folder & tell Windows to find the driver there

... or something like that
