Did someone just blow up my alps keyboard?
« on: Mon, 06 February 2017, 04:22:12 »
Got someone to put a ps/2 plug on my DIN alps white, even though he was following instructions (use a multimeter because the wire colors don't necessarily match) he blew up his usb and ps2 ports.  How likely is it that the keyboard will still work if I get an adapter locally?  He was obviously not willing to use his (not for sale) adapter on another of his computers.

Even if the board is shot it's not like any of the switches are going to be unusable. Worst case you got a dead pcb.... they are replacable, and there are pcb's for taking alps too.

I might not worry if that's the case, alps whites feel very very stiff and with a very low-pitched click, although that might have just been the keys.  This is the model in case you're curious: https://deskthority.net/wiki/NTC_KB-6251

People often get confused with mirror images in plugs and sockets. Remember that "left" on the plug is "right" on the socket.

If you got it backwards and swapped current and ground, you can do damage.
"However, my view has changed in recent days. Trump’s behavior is so bizarre, so unhinged, and so counter to his short-term interests that the most likely explanation for his actions is that Trump either believes or knows that he is mentioned in the Epstein files in ways that are even more damaging than the blowback he is getting for not releasing the files."
