I wasn't trying to be abrasive, most people don't fully understand how VAT works in general, not just relating to GBs; I won't go into it extensively as I don't want to derail the thread too hard but basically you pay VAT based on your location, not place of origin of the package - if you're in the EU, you pay VAT, does not matter where the product is produced, only where it will end up. If you go and buy pot noodles from the supermarket for 1€, anywhere between 19 and 25% of that will be VAT, the only difference is it'll be called something else (in Portugal its abbreviation is IVA) and it will be included in the asking price from the get go.
If someone from the US purchases GMK sets, seeing as they will not stay within the EU and will be exported to a place with no tax (save a few states where there's state taxing), the VAT (19% in Germany) is deducted from the final price - this is how it works in theory, some businesses don't handle it properly and then it gets confusing but if all is done according to how the law works, that should be how it is handled for most industry sectors I am familiar with. Thus, if something is produced within the EU and distributed within the EU, VAT still applies.
