I finally got around to building my GH60.
I started off printing off by printing Ziptyze’s case on Thingiverse:https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:983332
However, I found it didn’t quite fit the GH60, it was aimed at the Poker so this could be a matter of tolerances in the printers or differences in the keyboards, but I found it to be about a mm short in depth. After fixing that (and designing some feet) I realized that the plate sat way above the case, without a plate, or one that was painted, it would probably look good, but my silver plate it sticks out like a sore thumb. Looking at Ziptyze’s pictures it does show it is that short, it’s just not easy to see and I didn't look close (always print first and ask questions later!).
Here's my stretched version of his.
Here you can see how low profile it is. The seam you see is also not visible in person, lighting made it very obvious for some reason and I have done nothing to clean up the print before taking the picture.
Rather than just fix his to be higher profile, I figured may as well just use his to locate my screws and design my own. Here is what I came up with, two versions, high and low profile. Low profile should sit flush with the plate, and the high profile just above the bottom of the keycaps.
I started the case last night but I awoke to a mess on the build plate, it seems my printer decided making a rat’s nest would be more fun (been a while since it did that, so I guess it was due). A new one in silver is on the printer now as I’m now almost out of red (I'll pick up some more tomorrow from work). Oh well, silver will good with the caps I have in mind.
The failure, ignore the screws, I figured I would use it to double check my screw locations. I also didn't bother cleaning the print, I just wiped away the rats nest.
Some other feet I designed for it before doing the more solid base seen above; anvil foot, rod foot, mini foot, classic cone foot. I’ll probably go with the solid base. The classic cone uses a stick on rubber bumper the others use o-rings on the end of the pegs.O-rings are cheap and don’t come unstuck.
I'll update this late tomorrow when it's done (if I get home in time).
I'm still not sure what I’ll do with it, I ordered it in the group buy and have since found I don’t really want to go smaller than 65 or 75%, but I’ve had this sitting around for a while and just wanted to get it off the list of projects. I may keep it for use on customer computers or just sell it since I have plenty of others.
If someone wants the red one that completed (first picture), let me know, I can ship it off to someone for pretty cheap, I'll even toss in the matching feet I made (they are the red ones in the feet picture and raise it 17mm or 5/8in). The red color is a near perfect match for a Coca Cola plastic bottle label and matches Red Alert/Klaxxon keycaps. As for making any more of these or sharing the STL files... Maaaybe... I need to get it tested before I make any promises.
