Cherry Clones that are actually tactile?

 I'm trying to get into Cherry's but they're simply too, for lack of better words, undefined. So like I'm curious to know if any actually tactile cherry clones exist or if there is some sort of a concoction of switch parts to achieve this goal. I want a tactile switch primarily to use at school , and also the fact that 70% of my stock kbs are clicky.


Now this may sound a little crazy, but what I was thinking (if I had the parts to do it perhaps someone else can try this), essentially ghetto browning a zealiostotle.

Cherry and all clones are low end linear switches with tactile duct tapped on. You need alps stuff(matias for new) or buckling springs or topre for actual tactility by design.

IMO Zealios (and most cherry clones) have too much travel. I might also be feeling the Gateron's looser stem tolerance. Either way, I heard Kailh Speed Coppers are very nice. I hope to try them out myself soon.

The one thing I like about cherry is the extended travel, I don't type fast, but still. I have 120 loose coppers that I need to try.

Aren't they based on clears? I have a board with clears of which I have great resentment toward. They get gradually stiffer, which means it's cushioned, which is quite gross.

So I'm curious if they gradually get stiffer or were they designed to not have retardation of clear springs (as in what do you feel)?

I've liked 67g Zealios and Gateron Browns for tactility. MX Clears feel quite tactile too in my opinion, but those are heavy if you like lighter switches.

The Purple Zealios have sliders like Cherry MX Clears but come with several different springs. The lighter springs don't have too much resistance after the bump. They are a bit expensive though.
The Outemu Purple are similar but not as smooth.
Kailh Pro Purple should also be similar.

Greetech seems to have two different Brown switches: one only very mildly tactile like the Cherry MX Brown but also a variant with a much sharper bump.

Zealios are about as tactile as you can get.

If you like tactile then Cherry is not going to please you.

A nice quiet switch in a compact (or full sized) keyboard with great tactility would be a Matias Quiet Click

What about jailhoused two-part stem (e.g., MX Blue/clones), eh? I've just seen someone praise their jailhoused Aristotle stems.

MOD-M switches are slightly more tactile (but less smooth) than 67g Zealios, at least to my fingers. Some people would be inclined to agree as well.

The most tactile MX is going to be based on a blue, even clears have slightly less bump.

The most tactile of these without a doubt are the Outemu Speed Switch Bronze (with the click lever, warning these are loud), then Gatestotle/Cherrystotle (Aristotle inside a Cherry or Gateron housing) followed by Outemu and Aristotle, followed by Gaterons, then the rest fall in behind there. The Aristotle housings are old and brittle and almost impossible to open without breaking them. Outemu and Aristotle cannot be opened on most Universal plates. You can put Aristotle stems in Cherry and Gaterons, however, you need to be VERY careful when doing so as they have little feet on the legs and if you just shove them in it can destroy the internal contact mechanism.

If you want the most tactile MX switch possible but remain quiet Jailhouse Gaterons using Jspacers, no need for Silencios. Yes, you could JSpace a Gatistotle, and then use Silencios, but at that point you will probably have far more invested in your switch than you do the rest of the keyboard.

Keep in mind, jailhouse keyboards, even when using Jspacers or any other method are more fickle than other switches and you may have to redo a couple, and on most keyboards this means desoldering, tearing it apart, fixing the problem and then re-installing them.. Again. And they can also have problems later down the line that requires you to do the same.
