bad switches?
« on: Fri, 02 February 2018, 16:09:17 »
Whats the chances of getting some bad switches in a pack? Give a little context. I have had this K-Type since December. I have used Halos (To test with) > Tealios > Kailh Pro Purples for about a week. Today I got in some Box Black switches. I went about switching all my switches out got everything done. Started typing and had double types on a number of switches. I ended up doing a bit of trouble shooting and figured out the issue is the switches in question. I can even replicate the issue with the switches I think are bad which is 7 so far. Is this common? I mechanically can't think of anything that would cause a malfunction in a switch. Then again when you can change a piece of equipment out and it resolves the issue. Then the answer is clear. I was just wondering is it common practice to test switches before building a keyboard in case of issues? I got lucky the broken switches are being used on a hot swap board.

Cherry spec the debounce time of MX switches at 5ms or less. If the controller is programmed for this timing... What is the debounce time for the new switches?

Could also be they got too hot during soldering.
They may use a plastic with a lower melting point than you are used to.

I am honestly not sure but that might be a possibility thought found majority of the switches are working fine so far

These where not soldered in. The board uses hot swap sockets.

I picked up a 5 pack of Box Blacks to try out and they all have chatter issues if you wiggle the stem back and forth while they're depressed which doesn't happen if I swap the stems into different housings.

Bad batches happen so when I order more I'll just buy extras.

I had this issue with a bag of pale blue box.  Almost all had the chatter when you pressed down and wiggled. Luckily it was a hotswap board.  Mike sent me replacements and they all worked fine. Bad batches happen for sure

Thanks everyone I was kind a scratching my head. Cause with how the switches are constructed I thought short of corrosion they would work. These are box blacks and I bet its the same thing when the stim wiggles it chatters. I tested the switches in another hotswap board and all 10 did the same. I am still testing to make sure there isn't more broken ones glad I am not crazy
