The ICE keys are WIN! Really cool. ICE cold!

Thanks =)
I recently did an emerald one, but I have no clue where the heck I put it :S
I also have a few double molded clear ones that I will be testing soon.

Just as a heads up I will have them available for many different keys/boards.

EDIT: I forgot to mention in the previous post (which I will update now...)
that I am currently working on prototypes for ALL keys on the Filco 104/87 boards as well =)

Man, those ice keys are awesome.  Make a full set of ice keys for the HHKB Pro and I'd buy them.  How cool would it be to have ice keys, with blue-tinted ones for WASD and a red tinted one for the esc key?

That sounds killer! I wish that guy would get around to making them! =P

Quote from: webwit;177890
Yeah. I really don't think you need to keep a tally. Just make a thousand of them, or two. You will sell them.

haahaa, I wish =P
Seriously though, its quantity that is harder to do for me right now (although I am still trying to my my process more efficient)
Industrial injections machines-
Lower versatitlity but very high quality, high start up costs,  high cost for small quantities (not in stock), low cost for medium quantities, really low cost for huge quantities.
ME-
High versatitlity, quality variable (good to high), moderate start up costs, highest cost for small quanities (especially if not in stock), moderate price for medium quantities, high cost for large quantities.

I am working on prototypes for board cases and covers too, I hope those work out. I can to some crazy stuff with those!

Oooo... I am still curious to see if this will actually work out (I would be sad though if it flopped immediately).

A few random ideas for the FPS fans out there...

- Cap with red cross (medipack)
- Cap with magazine/clip (reload)
- Cap with cross-hair (snipe)

Or, how about some dual molded function keys? :D

haahaa great minds must think alike!
I have been talking to people about stuff like that and I already have-
-cross cap (intended to be red but currently uncolored)
-ammo cap (its like a section of a bandolier, black key with gunmetal and copper/brass metallic accents)
-cross hair cap (which I need to redo since it came out lame)

but I must focus at the moment... focus... STAAAY ON TARGET...!!!

I remember that thread (the link you posted) I still think that was great! WAIT! no.... STAY ON TARGET!

Ice keys gotta be illuminated to make it..
You can pull off the 5V line for 26 keys sharing the USB power.

Ooooo...! They do look great illuminated =D
The really nice thing is that since they are so translucent compared to normal backlit white-ish keys you can have the light dialed way, way low and its still clearly illuminated!
Quote from: NOMiS;177926

I don't think you could do a direct (below the switch) pcb connection but you could mod it I suppose. I have a few illuminated keys that I moded on a similar keyboard (crapius Mcrap, ok not really similar) but I did not connect the LED's to the boards power. I use it for some of my tests.

That would look great! That's actually the board I primarily test the illuminated keys on =)

I was going to pick up that Deck listed last night (had my finger on the buy it now button) but backed away when I noticed that the lights were blue (I want to do bigger tests with white LED's). I only have so much time to modify stuff.

That is the board I am focusing on the most and the Realforce 87u, with the filco tenkeyless a distant third atm.

I have been testing the following "ice" boards-

HHKB "ICE" ice top case and perhaps bottom case.
HHKB "Surf Board" a translucent blue and green top case and perhaps bottom case. I love the color of this one, the blues and greens are translucent but really rich, and they change color depending on the thickness and angle of the plasic. Similar to looking into an ocean. It's blue when thick or low angle and green when thin or looking perpendicular to a thinner section.
I am also testing different sliders and colored domes.
These are just tests atm from a very ambitious dork =P
Wish me luck!

Ice HHKB cases would sell no problem (I'd prefer clear, but would take either...the blue/green sounds cool).  Bundle it with a set of ice keys and I'd buy them too.

Great work, put me down on that list of interested parties.

Low profile metallics, the splats, dual moldeds on black keys, the dark purple . . . all of it is keyboard pr0n indeed.

Cursed ice caps, ;).  Just when I'd suitably convinced myself that a deck legend was a no go, because of the price increase & ugly font.

That HHKB "Surf Board" sounds perfect, since my rig is ocean themed with etched glass.  I'd originally expected to be primarily after key Filco Majestouch keys, but this is even more tempting.

I'll look forward to more pictures and tentative pricing.

Additionally, congrats Clickclack, you ended my lurking with your keys.

I'll just be ordering one or two of your actual skull caps. However, if you make selections of blank keys, I'd be ordering full sets. The skull caps are incredible, and a few would make an interesting novelty, but blank caps would be far more practical for me at least. Media keys as well.

I suggested a few posts back that a full set of ice skull keys would be cool. In reality, I wouldn't actually buy a full skull set, and I don't want to mislead your guestimations.

Keep up the great work!

I think there should be a bidding war for the prototype runs to help fund the projects.

That job was worth at least 3,500-4,000 ducats, and that's not even taking into account the rising interest rates or inflation that were prevalent in the first decade of 16th century Vatican City.

strong work there click clack, man all this flirting... sigh....

Haahaa, thanks =(
I am currently spread really thin, and I am fixing (unfortunately) and modifying equipment to possibly handle more volume. It's getting quickly expensive though as one could imagine. I am working on consolidating everything to one or two studios, so I post stuff as I come across it. You have to remember that much of what you guys end up seeing in that first post is usually many months old. Although I have been told I am a flirt, so...

All extremely nice and enticing, be sure to be quick, before someone from the Central Kingdom notices your endeavour. They are all ambitious/avaricious, consumes all and not even bother to spit out the bones.
Some Red MX Escape Skull caps please, and much more as yet undecided.

I know, it's something I am always worried about, especially in the industries in general that I have worked in. I am going as fast as I can reasonably go, rest assured, but the faster I go I end up bleeding money. I am trying to find a good balance between time, funds, volume, and versatility.
Thanks for your interest and concern, it's much appreciated =)
I will note you on the tally.

haahaa, seriously though I would love to do this, and I even have a wicked idea for it based on another proto that I have. But I usually work for bigger companies that figure out licensing contracts, it's a difficult thing to pursue.
Private commissions??? idunno... =P

I will respond to more soon, you guys caught me off gaurd today! Hahaa =)

I'm keeding.  Please put me above Webwit on your priority list.

Hahaa, nice! Choice pic as usual =)
I think webwit had the one up on ya last time so I think you take the lead this time. And now the ball is in webwits corner... ( I should make a game of this)

I though about doing this again, but... (continued and numbered below)

I think there should be a bidding war for the prototype runs to help fund the projects.

Eventhough I did this to begin with, I don't know if I am comfortable doing this again. For a few reasons
1) The protos take a really long time to make
2) The protos would not likely be consistent
3) It would cost so much that I thinik people would get turned off

Quote from: webwit;180245
This would only encourage him to make more prototype molds.

4) I don't want people to think this ^ haahaa =)

Quote from: ripster;180249
I bid 3,000 err.... 2,000 ducats!

That was perfect, that is how I feel! Just when the pan up at that daunting ceiling! haahaa
5) I could not make the protos in any decent quantitiy
(continued in next post...)

Reminds me of the Alu keycap guy. Made a few prototypes, started pre-sales, got the money, produced the molds and caps, and shipped. You don't have a budget problem, and you know exactly the demand. I wouldn't mind pre-paying.

This is a very good idea for someone who is outsourcing, but unfortunately/fortunately my scenario doesn't work the same way. That guy didn't make them himself with his equipment (that I can tell). I am making them by myself and with my custom designed equipment. So I am working more against the clock than the dollar. Although, I am bleeding money on this dangerously quick. The money would only help to allow me to cut back hours at work so that I could focus on the keys more, but that is a big risk right now.

Indeed =)
The prepaid idea sounds nice but I need more variables figured out first. One of which would be how these new equipment modifications will work out in a limited production setup.
I really want to get the planning right so my process can be one of quality, versatility, and allow the maximum amount of creativity.

Thanks for the interest everyone and for the motivation. You guys are only helping me become more ambitious =P

So I have made some pretty good progress on adapting my equipment and techniques for producing these keys. I am going to focus as much time as I can to this (pretty much all my free time).

In the mean time enjoy some more pics =)

EDIT: just posted a picture of one of the first commissions many month ago. It was for an aged looking skull. The base color was white and the aged color was done in a rich dual tone purple. The aged color is bonded and goes about as deep as a dye sublimated key.

more prototypes and commissioned work to follow...
enjoy and thanks for looking =)

I'd be happy to help you out by pre-paying.  I'm always happy to support someone aspiring to do something great...  Just don't take off with my money, some skaters tried that once and things didn't fare well for them.

However I don't feel comfortable doing that at the moment. The preorder idea is something I am considering more and more though, but again I am just not sure I am at that point where I think it will be as mutually beneficial as it could/should be.
