Series I
Colors: Ultramarine or Dark Gray
Cornerstone: Copper
Units: 100

This keyboard is 100% designed by, CADed by, manufactured by and fulfilled by Mekanisk. Specifically me, LeandreN.
PCB designed by Wilba.tech.

Purposeful design
Mekanisk will always be heading away from established design norms to create something unique. With the Tind, we mix mechanical engineering with Norwegian nature.
In the Tind, you can find the sharp beveled mountainous edges seamlessly enclosing the rest of the keyboard, on the inside and under(hidden) you find the new Mekanisk Gasket System, and the purposeful copper cornerstone which contains the serial number.

Information
Tind is a high-end keyboard with a custom moulded self-aligning gasket system. The plate has total isolation. You just build your board, connect the daughterboard, throw it in and fasten the top from the bottom with screws.

The design of this keyboard started in 2017, right after Fjell R1 finished shipping. It has been a top mount, gasket mount, bottom mount, gasket mount(again) and I think I have finally found the recipe for a good silicone gasket keyboard. I want to have this mounting system available to use in future Mekanisk keyboards, and to finally prove that the solution works, is a huge milestone for me because it allows me to integrate gaskets in a good way into future designs, and develop good designs, faster.

The keyboard uses 12 custom moulded bottom gaskets that support the plate from the bottom as well from the sides by letting the plate rest on them. This mean that no alignment is needed. There are 12 corresponding small silicone gaskets that push the plate down from the top at the same places and creates a firm grip for the plate. The plate is totally isolated from the rest of the case. The bottom silicone pieces are thicker than normal keyboard gaskets.

The plates are designed from the ground up to support the keyboard in the best possible way. These do not support switch top removal.

Specifications and features
  • 60% keyboard
  • 8 degree typing angle
  • Heavily chamfered edges with refined design
  • Low profile front height
  • Full gasket isolation mount and seamless design
  • New plate designs with mild relief cuts
  • Custom molded silicone pieces for the top, bottom and under.
  • USB-C Wilba PCB with a centered daughterboard
  • VIA compatible PCB
  • Each keyboard is serial numbered

SHIPPING
Shipping will only be done via DHL Express directly from our factory. If you are in Norway, your order will be shipped from Norway. Shipping cost has increased in 2020, expect a higher shipping cost than you normally would. Your countries taxes are not included in the price unless you are in Norway.

WHEN
We are aiming for a late June raffle, with November shipping. The raffle will be announced beforehand, and will not come as a surprise.

FAQ
Why are there no blocked corners or winkeyless options?
We need to limit all options as much as possible for this keyboard, so for this round, only the standard layout will be available. The next round we will supply different options and might include both blocked corners and winkeyless layouts.

Will there be more color options?
Not this round.

What does gasket/isolation mount mean?
To me, it means that the plate is isolated from the rest of the case in some way. There are many different methods that are used to achieve this. We developed our own.

Weight
Approx 1400g with brass plate. Unbuilt.

The status of this project is added to MEKANISK.XYZ so you can keep yourself updated there.

Thank you for reading.

I fee like a full Carbon Fiber plate would fee the best, but interested in your opinion on the feel and sound of full vs half and CF vs Brass with this board

I personally like CF better than brass, but both are good options in this board.
This is not a "gasket for flex" board, it is more like a gasket for sound and soft bottom out.
I haven't had a chance to experiement with half plates.

I really hope I win this raffle. This boards looks incredible and it's designed by someone who can make a tray mount like no one else, so i can't wait to see what you can do with a gasket mount.

I do have a quick question. Will the plates and PCBs be readily available after the group buy. I am too scared to buy a board with only 1 plate and PCB, but if i knew they would be available in the future if needed it would be nice to save some cash up front.

Wow, what is a copper plate like?

Slightly more dense than brass.  Similar firmness or perhaps a bit more flexible (very slight difference here).  Pretty much like brass but a tad heavier.

Entry submitted. I really hope I get lucky on this one. Assuming emails go out tomorrow? Will we get an email if we missed it or only the winners? Thanks for everything you do for the community. You are a true pioneer and I am particularly impressed with how you run the same board multiple times with slight revisions. It gets quite frustrating looking at a board and knowing that it's never going to be available again.

Congrats to those who won. Do you have an estimate on when Series II will be available?

Took my time to decide on the plate material... excited to have won.
Might only get one Think6.5 v2 this month now.  :p

Invoiced the Norwegians, or sent a follow up mail.

Anyway, Tind Series I production is ordered.

Due to demand, we will push Series II up the queue and hopefully we will be able to announce the theme for Series II soon.

I am doing some in-depth testing of the Tind. Since the plate is totally isolated, the plate is super important to sound.

The copper plate plate feel great and clacky, but in certain configurations it can produce a light metallic sound on hard bottom outs (almost pinging), this is especially true for unlubed switches. The same goes for brass, but in a much lesser degree. Carbon fiber does not have this issue. Most of you already chose carbon fiber as the plate material.

If you want to change plate to carbon fiber, or make any other changes, please reply to your order confirmation.
Keep in mind that all plates will be for sale so you can just buy a new plate after you have tested for yourself.

Thank you!

We had 65% choosing Ultramarine and 35% choosing Dark Gray.

I don't want to confirm entry numbers, but I can confirm we had more than a thousand entries.

Series II is in the works. Together with the 65% and TKL versions(both after Series II).

I recommend joining our Discord.

Will Series II be a limited GB as well?

Hi!
Time for an update.
We finalized the design, but we want to run one more prototype with some adjustments just to make sure all of you get the best 60% keyboard there is. So we are officially waiting for a new prototype.

Updates:
- gasket compression adjustment, reduced a little bit
- plate adjustment for both ANSI and ISO
- screws will be M3 Torx socket-head in the same length for bottom mounting (M3x8mm)
- screws for weight mounting will be a combination of M3 Torx countersunk and socket-head.
- tools for Torx will of course be included in the package, as we do understand not everyone use Torx
- slight USB updates

Will let you know of any future updates, but I recommend joining the Discord.

Great news.  Hoping that the anodizing goes smoothly since it’s your tried and true ultramarine.   :thumb:

Shipping update:
25% of Tinds are shipped. These first shipments are split into two deliveries, so expect two packages if you got a shipping confirmation yesterday.

The remaining 75% will ship next week.

Thank you.

How will the declared value be split between the two shipments?
VAT and customs fees would be charged on the two separate shipments so it would be good to know.

You’ll get cucked twice since you play vat on the shipping costs as well. So either way it’s extra money to pay.

It’s hard to capture the color but it’s a slight more blue and just slightly less saturated than TU1

261823-0

Looks great with neutrals and tans
