RAMA M10-A (NOW AVAILABLE)
« on: Wed, 23 November 2016, 22:25:18 »
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/rama-m10-a?mode=guest_open

Launching soon!

After a grueling almost 8 month wait, we’re finally here. The RAMA M10-A is finally launching! Since the beginning I’ve always wanted to hit a price point that would make it accessible to as many as people as possible - that’s why I teamed up with Massdrop to make this product a reality and to get it to everyone as affordably and as time efficiently as possible.

The M10-A is really a premium product, from it’s heavy weight to its monolithic structure - no detail was spared when designing this product from the ground up. Especially with Machine Industries working in parallel to make sure that the M10-A is as easy as possible to program and use.

I would not have been able to bring this product to the market without the immense support from members of the community. So thank you all for always been so supporting in my products, my designs and my work. The M10-A is only the beginning.

If you have any questions regarding the product, feel free to ask and I’ll answer it as soon as possible!

$99.99 with free domestic shipping (USA), switches and caps :)

Wow, that price point is incredible! The M10 looks fantastic, congratulations Rama. I'm really tempted to get one even though I can't solder, just going to have to get a friend or someone else to do it for me - I'm assuming pre-assembled is not going to be an option?

Thank you for all the work you've put in!

OH, we in there 100% then, probably going to order a couple, one for the wife and one for myself, perfect! Price is beyond great yea and cheers for offering assembly, honestly, that helps a ton for people who are a little inept (or just lazy) like myself.

Hopefully there's a tiny gap between this launching and the JC65 coming out haha, wallet needs a breather!

Super excited, very keen to see it all together after staring at it on a screen for so long :)

Yeah, I think they'd look great next to eachother, both high profile :) Colours is definitely the toughest choice to many :P

Was the only way to bring it to market, I'm just not well placed here in AUS to meet the demand :( And to get it to that price point as well X_X

Unfortunately not bro, all the units are not passing through my hands - wish I could help out. Only way is to get it through MD  :p

Hey Rama - is there any practical way i (or maybe a special shop could) can recolor the silver M10-A to the offwhite color you have, so it matches the case of white hhkb, without potentially ruining it or the finish? Super excited to get it but the color difference wont be ideal #firstworldproblems

Yeah for sure, a few automotive shops or specialist powder coating places should be able to do it for you :) I've used paint shops quite a bit here in Melbourne, especially during my University years for models/prototypes. You can just give them anything and they'll paint it - Only the outer surfaces would have to be painted as well - fairly easy :)

Else, if you're good at spraypainting you can lay down a good primer then try it out yourself :P

Cheers :)

Hey rama

Q1) about to get my M4A powder coated - do you happen to know what color that hhkb white is you used?  Not sure if there is an accepted color code or something for it instead of shoving my keeb in their face.

Q2) Also since i know you are busy af, i will put this here too.  Do you (or anyone else) know offhand whether holtite sockets fit the M10 and M4 pcb?

Hey man!

Q1) If you're referring to the initial prototype of the M10, the color is Pantone 427U. I don't have a colour reference for a stock HHKB case though, but the M10 prototype looks really nice next to it:

Q2) I will find that out for you and get back to you :)

Thabks duuude!!

I always just assumed you had color matched it to your hhkb for some reason.  Yah though, the prototype is what i was referring to.  Keebs and keycaps have made me realize how awful i am at judging colors hah.

Don't worry about the holtite question actually.  I was thinking you may have known offhand.  I already have a sack of them in route for the m4a so i will know soon enough.

No worries man :)

I really love the colour used for the prototype, cool greys are amazing. But yeah, most powdercoaters should be able to do something with that reference color, it's very widely used! You gotta share how it turns out on the M4, that's going to look pretty unique :) Also, make sure that they don't paint too much inside the area where the nylon piece sits, there's about 0.1mm of tolerance around the inside of that cut.

Hope the holtites fit too! Let us know :)

Let me check that for you, Machine uses a specific SIP socket - from what I recall it's not Holtite but another brand. I have left him a message and he will get back to me with the model and make :)

Yeah really not a big deal man - already soldered everything anyhow.  I should have actually looked up sizes before ordering hah.

One other question,  is there anything i can do to stabilize the 2u keys? I put an two SA 2u on and they both shot off because i hit the key on the sides (where they have no switch).  I put two DSA caps on there instead and they are fine so this could be an issue with the actual SA keys themselves but either way curious about stabilizing.

Hey man! They're: Mill Max 0479-0-43-80-34-27-10-0.

As for the stabs, they are not supported - call me strange but I enjoy the rocking action - I think it's sort of ergonomic to hit it when it's angled and your finger pushes in on an angle rather than straight down :p

What's the likelihood of a second run in the future? Please...? Pretty please...??

PS we want the spinner!!

edit: the Mill Max do not seem to have a groove for press fit -- so they need to be soldered to the board to act as a hot swap socket right?

Very likely! :)

Spinner is coming, looks like hopefully next month :D

As for the Mill Max socket, it has a flange so I'm assuming it sits flush - then yeah I guess you solder it, but I'm not too sure. I'll see if machine has an answer :)
