Exactly this. What one person sends really has nothing to do with what another sends. What you receive should have no factor in what you send. If you don't have the means (or inventory) to send a "commodity" item, sending a handwritten note to your recipient, with a heartfelt sentiment of your feeling toward them is just as valid as a gift.

if it is a public google doc, then you will be showing everyone each others address. you could easily cross reference the return address (because its tracked) to your santa (no?). If you set up a 'google form' instead and keep the results private, it may work better for collecting the data and keeping it a secret.

Honestly, some of my favorite gifts I've ever gotten are cheap things that someone made for me. I still have a crappy caricature a friend did of me because it's funny and reminds me of them. And there are awesome mix CDs I've gotten that were tailored to me that meant a ton to me. Yeah, getting something expensive or rare is often cool, but getting something made with your interests in mind often has even more sentimentality and awesomeness attached to it.
Every Secret Santa I've ever done always has the one person who goes out and buys something expensive and crazy and over the top, always has those handful of people who half ass it, and always has those couple of people who spent almost nothing, but got to know their Secret Santa and handcrafted them stuff with uplifting and honest notes. Over time, those people who bought the expensive stuff tend to be forgotten, but those that took the time to learn something about their Secret Santa ended up being the most memorable and awesome Secret Santa that person has ever had.
In the end, it's not the value of what you send so much as the thoughtfulness of what you send.
Pretty sure that's a secret.......this is secret santa after all.
Hopefully my santa has a sense of humor.

no offense to you, but Brazil is the most annoying country to deal with when it comes to import/export.
They are absolutely completely corrupted and Brazilian Customs is a PITA to do anything.
Everything has to go through an authorized agent in Brazil, who's equally corrupted.

In the US, you can actually get serious punishments for messing with the mail. In this country and much of the rest of the world it is another matter. A quick google search shows that three of the worst cases got sentences between 2 and 14 months, and that about 400 people a year are sacked for stealing from the Royal Mail. The 14 months guy did have to move in with his mother because his flat was full of stolen post, but he only spent the gift vouchers, not the credit cards or cheques.

I routinely turn away business requests for shipping to Brazil because of this matter.
I've had a container basically held hostage until I paid a $500 service fee to pick it up from the pier.
As one of the owners of www.kiteaid.com (kite surfing industry), I end up sending a lot of stuff to Brazil. We opened a distributor there and wow it was complicated. The import taxes you guys have to pay are crazy. Combine that with customs and its pretty hard to import stuff into Brazil.

Work in RL has been very trying lately so pics soon, but I wanted to say thanks to my secret santa who is, I believe jolonnar. I had no idea I even needed one of his palm rests until I opened my gift and found a brand new black leather palm rest. Puts everything else I have ever used to shame. Exactly the type of classy look that I prefer and I couldn't be happier with the craftsmanship (and I'm even more thrilled that it's hand-crafted ... I know there's a lot of hoopla about the Handarbeit set, and I don't know German, but I know what "arbeit" means and now that I have this palm rest I prefer to translate Handarbeit as Hand-crafted and in that regard, this is my "Handarbeit."
Also.. my SS gifted me a couple of metal Cherry and GeekHack stickers. I'm not into flash but I am seriously considering making room for them on my boards because this gift makes me a little sentimental about Bunny's Secret Santa project. Particularly because in his note my SS made it clear that he put some effort into this and I really enjoyed that extra little bit of good-vibes over the holiday. Thanks Secret Santa!!
Also.. the only reason I know (or think I know) it's jolonnar is because of a slip where I could infer he made the palm rest I was holding in my hands and drooling over (and then the International tie in, that kind of helped too).
One more thing: jolonnar is the guy behind the Noko store front.
Here's hoping that everyone had a merry xmas not just here in GH, but also out there in RL!

Well, since you figured it out, the top one is curly maple dyed black and purple and the bottom one is Canary wood.

I enjoyed part of my secret santa gift for lunch yesterday! :thumb:
I had a really busy christmas, lots of traveling and lack of sleep.
My dad had to work all the days I visited him and overall it was just a really busy christmas.
So it was nice to have a package waiting for me at home when I finally got around to being home.
It contained lots of a nice note, candy and a few keycaps! Was quite happy to get a Zelda heart keycap, because I've never tried tried thick PBT before. o:

This is my first time typing on these (Cherry profile) keycaps, I could already feel the difference. Cherry profile really does have a different feel from OEM profile. Really loving it so far! I also love the sharp corners on each keycap...gives it a really clean look to it. These caps will either stay on my TKL or on my upcoming 60%! What you see is basically just what i like - which i can imagine is thanks to the the note that i wrote in the form we had to fill.
So what i got if you cant see from the crappy pics (sorry :S) is 3 metal starcraft keycaps, 3 glow in the dark keys, 1 ducky keycap (god damn i love ducky i wish i had a ducky board too :D), a cap from the GH set that was made to test the cherry replica colors (and raise funds?), matching spasebar (not sure about this one tho but i love it :D), two starcraft stickers and last but not least ironman keycap... i never imagined that will have such kaps, thank you so god damn much santa <3

wow, just looked at the picture zoomed in and it's from 1900...
I thought I had it dated for the 20s or 30s but I couldn't be sure. I spent like 20 minutes trying to date it but it was a bit tricky. Still really cool!
I'm no expert on 20s or 30s plastics lol. It seems too sturdy to be from that era but I can't tell for sure. For anyone else interested, I was using this (http://www.mccoys-kecatalogs.com/Dating.htm) to try and date it. Regardless, it's cool. Still learning some of the more advanced functions.

hopefully stuff is on the way to the people missing though, tym has the list of tracking numbers to check if things have been sent, but i dont think everyone filled out the form

Mine arrived the day after I left for the holidays, and the lady at the post office who I asked to hold my packages just plain forgot till the day after she mailed it back. They felt so bad it made me feel bad :(
