For me to consider this set, it'd definitely need Alice support.
But besides that, it is already banging, great job Hiney :thumb:

Regarding split/extra spacebars, OG Spacekeys will be running in a few weeks on my site, so you can get L9 spacebars from that.

Super in for the regular alphas with red accents, GB soon pls 😤

Also would love a R4 1.25u Caps Lock if possible (for those that like to swap caps and control)

Both sets are good looking, I like the JS Hi-pro colorway a lot.

I’ll publicly request a couple windowed keys for caps and some 1u.

So much love for the UK ISO included in the base kit.  For that reason alone I will be buying.  An alternative MOD set might be a nice addition.

So it's just a very classic colorway with orange accents?

The JS one looks nice and clean if you're into that. I like the choices made in the base kits.

Am I missing something? Is the hype just because it's hiney?

What I would like even more:
- R5

- P3 instead of RO2

In summary, these are the suggested changes for the JS kits:
  • Add R1 `~ー
  • Add R3 #~む
  • Change R4 \|む to \|ろ
  • Change R1 -_ほ to -_ほー
  • Change R1 0(わを to have a large を sublegend

I agree with these recommendations.  The last two are required to make even the ANSI layout correct, which should probably be a minimum bar, and as for the first three -- while they wouldn't go so far as to offer full support for JIS keyboards (which I would love, but unfortunately would require a much more extensive kit) -- they would at least allow for correct placement of alphanumeric and kana characters on JIS keyboards, meaning that only the punctuation is off. I believe the same is true of ISO boards, although I will defer to konstantin there as he has done more research on the state of kana input on non-JIS boards than I have.

We used to pile in a car and drive 15 miles to rent movies for a weekend as that was where the beta selection was. Still have beta transformers tapes...

Base kit compat is great. Mod-colored tilde and pipe would be nice to have, but I guess you omitted them on purpose, which is fine.

Show Image

The proposed JS base, if that is preferred to the smaller JS add-on:

Show Image

The JS add-on and JS base kits are missing the R1 `~ー, R3 #~む and R4 \|ろ keys needed for JIS and ISO. The JIS-only 半角/全角 key is present, so it would make sense to include these as well.
The R1 -_ほー key is missing the ー quaternary (top-right) sublegend used on ANSI JP layouts, which these kits are based on.
The R1 0(わを key has a small を quaternary sublegend when, in fact, it should be regular size (like the わ below it) since a small を character doesn't exist in hiragana. (This has been a common mistake in hiragana kits ever since GMK Serika.)

In summary, these are the suggested changes for the JS kits:
  • Add R1 `~ー
  • Add R3 #~む
  • Change R4 \|む to \|ろ
  • Change R1 -_ほ to -_ほー
  • Change R1 0(わを to have a large を sublegend
All molds exist / will exist by the time this gets quoted. References:
Kana sublegends reference
Standard ANSI JP layout
GMK Bentō R2 base kit
GMK Mecha-01 base kit

Hope this helps.

Edit: added missing links
Edit2: updated Mecha-01 link

I agree with you completely.  I'm tired of JP sets not properly supporting JIS like it should be.

In therms of the set... Great colorway, probably going to be a buy. :)  Can we also have some smaller spacebars?  I think JIS should come with smaller spacebar for all the mods the layout has.  That'd be a nice addition.

I'm still a bit weary of the ETD of the set and the terrible QC though...  but this looks great.  Hopefully it'll look great out of production too!

Does the fact that this is stock colors mean that this can "jump" the current GMK wait time?

Just 8 months and two pushbacks instead of 11 and being Dracula’d.

good one lol

yes, there should not be a color matching phase as the colors are all stock GMK colors. I do not think it will "jump" anything in the queue as those orders were placed before this one will be.

GMK won't actually put you into the production queue until all the vendors have submitted their purchase orders - after the gb period
