When I asked Das why the Silent version costs more than the regular, they said that MX brown switches cost more than MX blues. When XArmor mentioned to me that they were probably going to roll out an MX brown version of the U9BL the rep briefly griped about how MX browns are the most expensive MX switches and said, "I can see why Das charges more for their Silent version".
Why are MX browns so expensive? Is the demand for them huge and the factory has low yields? I'd think MX blues would be more expensive as a two-part stem must be more complicated to manufacture. But no, it's the browns, which must be close to the same cost to manufacture as blacks or clears.
What gives?
