This has all been discussed already, but yes, there has been suggestions of raffling/auctioning off extras that everyone contributed to, but there is no really fair way to do that. I would actually make less money if I stopped at 99 orders, since I would only have one extra set to sell for profit, but if that happened I would get whatever the discount is worth of money for free. Instead I prefer to offer extra sets to people that missed out on ordering in the actual group buy, which requires me to work for it. I see your point though, I did say in the OP that I wouldn't cut the orders short to jew people out of a discount. It was said when I was thinking we might get 50 orders, and I wouldn't limit it to 45-49 or w/e. I suppose it still applies, though I did say later that I may close it early if we hit really good order counts and it then stalls at a certain number... that was meant to get it moving quickly, not cut orders. Btw the numbers aren't anything close to yours, its more like 94 is the same price as 100. 95 requires I spend money to do it, that's why I picked it.
Anyways, we're talking about me selling 5 sets for ~$250-300. I normally expect/want to make between $500-1000 for each group buy I do. The $1 collected on top of each order usually ends up getting eaten in packaging, gas, and misc costs, so it really is a handling fee. There is a bit of markup on the bubble mailers, but those aren't even being used here... so really the only way I'm going to make any money is selling those... and even then its much less than I would normally get. The reward for everyone isn't a couple of free sets to some lucky members, or donations to iMav, its that I keep doing these for everyone, my group buys are extremely well organized and efficient, but that takes a lot of my limited time- so it better be worth it.
