I understand that the IRS considers it income. It isn't income in any meaningful sense of the word though. The money isn't mine, and I don't own the keys that I distribute.

Best to talk to a CPA but I'd suspect you could file the payments as business income and the cost of buying/distributing keys as a business expense. That should wipe out the vast majority of the income and only leave a small portion behind. Then, if you're making any donations to GeekHack you could see if iMav has it registered as a charity and take that deduction as well.

Either way, kind of a ****ty thing for you GB organizers to have to deal with...

I, too, would be willing to help out. If there is anything we can do let us know. It sounds like right now we have invoiced for X pre-orders, and we lost some for some kits and as a result a bunch of folks would now need to be re-invoiced at a different price. I'd be fine with an 'adjustment' week where we see if for those kits we can gather enough orders (not pre-orders) to meet the demand. I'd even be willing to pay extra on my current kits if the price changed. Let us know!

EDIT:
The amount I charged per person for SP's shipping charge to me was $0.25 per person, this was based on the novelty GB which had approx 8,000 keys, this time there is 34,775 keys and the shipping fee is $135 and with the $0.25 per person I only took in $37.50 :ohwell:

Several people have asked to help cover some of the sets that have been cancelled, but I haven't seen tsangan actually address it after he mentioned the cancellations. I have sent him a private message, and haven't seen a reply, but just send him a message to see if he has anything he wants to sell to the late arrivals.

Sorry for the lack of reply in regards to this issue, but once order is closed I am not taking new orders regardless of people cancelling, it would lead to more problems on my end. I have NOT cancelled off the people that did not pay yet, their orders is still there and I paid for it personally if they don't claim it when the time comes extras will go on sale.
