I would actually use one on wild hogs.  Those things are stupid tough.  On top of the fact that they cause multiple millions of dollars worth of crop damage every year.  When they get to traveling in herds/pack/whatever a group of them is called, a semi-auto rifle would be nice.  Especially if you are hunting on a farmers land that is paying you per head.

The "wild hogs" as you refer to are the BEST to hunt down.  We just call them "Bush-pigs" it also refers to ugly women here in Oz but that's another story.  I've only been able to get the 'bushies' with one shot straight on when his head is aimed towards you.  Shooting him anywhere else only makes him angry as hell especially if he's around 450kgs/1000lbs.

Plus there's enough meat to feed everyone and everything in the near area.  Nothing better than a spit-roast around evening time and a nice coldie sitting in your hand, perfection on earth  :thumb: .

I would have to agree with the perfection on Earth.  I have had the wonderful chance to try some smoked ribs from a hog shot in Kentucky.  Best ribs I have ever had.  And I run my smoker pretty damn good myself.  My personal best was a pair a 14 pound turkeys for a football game, 4 guys and my  wife eating off them.  At the end of the game all that was left was one breast and one leg.

That's what everyone else doesn't get, when you shoot your food and prepare it, barbecue the beggar, adding your special herbs and spices, it tastes like nothing else on the planet.  Most people are content to go out to MacDonald's and order a "McFeast" and get something that destroys your pallet.  Also the so-called meat sold in the food-chains are so abysmal I wouldn't even feed it to my dog.

Once you taste what real flesh is like you couldn't go back to eating that awful, mass-produced junk ever again.  I always make ready my rifle and cruiser on my holidays to take the plunge into the wild to see what else to target and taste over a roaring fire.  Once you develop a passion for this type of lifestyle there is nothing else that comes even close.

I remember following some of the testing of the H+K USP (before internet) and couldn't wait to get my hands on one. Hardly can believe you sold it…it's sorta a keeper, ain't it? :)

You guys have some of the most Mac-daddy firearms around….it's surprising. Pleasantly.

Can I plead the 5th on that question.... ^-^ To my defense I have been doing a lot of selling of rifles and pistols I find I am not shooting a lot or at all to make room for other stuff I want. Basically keeping just the pistols and rifles I do love to shoot... I learned my lesson from hording keyboards.  :p

I didn't play with it that much so I sold it. One day I'll get a real AR and a real 1911. I have this Sig 1911-22 but it's not the real deal.

I thought it was about time I put a brake on my AR. I was going back and forth between the Surefire muzzle brake and the Lantac Dragon and ended up deciding on the latter. It makes a pretty nice flame in low light.

The VFG is just for fun, found it in a box of parts  :p

Let me know how that lantec dragon works out for you? I've been looking at that muzzle device also since many people have good things to say about it.

Also like the CMR panels on the handguard now, looks great. Also nothing wrong with the RVG, I like using stubby RVG's on all my rifles now. Makes a good handstop...

Will do, I'm sure I'll get to run it through a few matches here in the coming months. I don't have much to compare it to... I guess that means I need to build another rifle!  :))

The RVG felt really uncomfortable to me for some reason. I still want to try out an AFG and a handstop, but with all the improvised gun resting I have to do for 3 gun I think a bare bottom rail is probably the best setup.

You  should run a handstop or barrier support attachment then for your type of shooting. I just like it since its a nice reference point for my hand...

how's that JM PRO working out for you also?

I've seen a few people running the Noveske K9 barrier supports. I might give that a try.

Haven't actually shot the 930 yet, I brought it out to the range last weekend with the AR but by the time I was finished playing with the AR it was dark, and I've been so busy lately that I can't find much time to get out   Hoping to make it to the range again this weekend!

keyboards and rifles... duno know how they mix

But definitely you keyboard warriors aren't the conventional definition of a keyboard warrior. You're actually keyboard + warrior.

Sounds more like.... my Rifle is for taking out targets at range, and when I run out of bullets, I'll close in for the kill with my ueber reliable triple metal-plated, 6-lb metal casing keyboard with another 3lbs of zinc keycaps. My keyboard is also a chopping block cum meat tenderizer.

Some interesting movement here in California. The anti-gun movement will be possibly swinging in the other direction due to some recent and anticipated rulings regarding CCW. Because in California it's very difficult to legally carry CCW, and it recently became illegal to open carry-unloaded. The argument (more or less) is that there is a violation of the 2nd amendment since you basically can't have a weapon available to you for self-defense. There are some related laws that may be reversed/heavily amended regarding the type and magazine capacities of guns available in this state that may relaxed.

Disclaimer: I have no interest in open carry, loaded, unloaded, etc. That draws unwarranted attention to something I will hopefully never, ever pull out in public, let alone actually use. My only interest is in legally having the option to own and/or CCW if and when I had the feeling that it may be warranted (i.e. camping, etc.)

I believe you should open carry if thats the only way you can carry a firearm for self defense, but if you have an option to conceal then I dont think open carry is a good idea.

This post is more gun porn. Introducing the Mateba MTR-8, carbine revolver, competition model.

I don't own it but i can't help but admire the eccentric interpretation to a typically conservative design.

An Italian artist pushed the cylinder forward to create this eccentric revolver. Its like an ugly unicorn,

simultaneously beautiful and ugly.

It's like someone took a semi-auto pistol, like a MK II, chopped off the front end, then stuck a handleless revolver on it.

I want one.

I'd garner the front-heaviness would lessen the recoil some.

Bit too young to own a gun, but I just discovered http://www.ar15.com/gunstruction

so here's the worst gun I could possibly make, cumulatively.

it's a $10000 .22 LR. I'm so sorry

Luckily, I have a rifle I'd actually buy.

I've been wanting a Unica 6 or 2006M for a few years now, they're just so hard to find, and expensive when you can find one. Such an awesome, unique piece though.

Can anyone tell me how bright Trijicon RMR's (not dual illuminated) get on auto-brightness compared to the Burris Fastfire 3?  Also where is the light sensor on the RMRs?

How old are you (if you don't mind) and where do you live at?  My 5 year old son won a .50 cal muzzle loader at a Ducks Unlimited Banquet dinner for the Green Wings stuff they do.  This was a couple week ago.  I live in Iowa.  Also my 9 year old niece won a .22LR rifle but I think the paper work is in her moms name and the muzzle loader doesn't require any paperwork.

I'll be 16 in September and I live in that ever-glorious state of Texas. I have thought about asking my dad to buy the reciever under his name and just transfer it over when I'm of age, but I don't have the money anyhow right now.

i thought in texas you could bear arms since your conception
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Federal Law, not state, and the Civil War helped teach us that the state can't undercut the feds.

Not that you can't shoot guns in Texas until you're 18, there's no minimum age. I saw a 10 year old firing a semi-auto AK-47 clone with a drum mag last time I went to the range.

I swear. At some point, I'm going to have a .300 Blackout AR with the NFA works. It'll take, like, 3 years to assemble everything, but it'll happen, and it'll be beautiful.

Funny is I actually didn't want the SR-30 upper since 300BLK is so pricey and I don't reload.. also I live in a commie state where I don't get to have suppressors or SBR's... I would love a 9.5" Blackout with a suppressor...

I just bought it so I could get the lowers....  :p Which are basically a pain to get in Cali..

Picked up this from the FFL today

Quick cell phone pic because it went out to ATEI right away to have some work done (notably, milling for an RMR). This wait is going to be tough  :'(

Congrats!! I like that chocolate color. I know waiting to get your toy back is tough. I'm also waiting to get my CZ P01 back from some custom work. My next gun is probably a Tanfoglio Stock 2 if I can find one. It's pretty popular in IPSC.

What kind of work are you having done to the P01? I'm waiting on my pro tek to come back from the custom shop as well.

I sent it over to Cajun Gun Works for Pro-Package kit. You have the Protek??   I would love to have a Protek but apparently you can't have every gun you want. I thought Protek is already a custom gun. What did you send it out for?

The pro-tek is a sweet gun already until I was lucky enough to get a CZ custom Atrox. After that the pro-tek just didn't feel the same, so off it went back to the custom shop to get it to feel more like the Atrox. It's getting FO front sight and blacked out rear, undercuts on the frame under the trigger guard and beavertail, refinishing the frame in a burnt bronze, a short reset trigger, and an original 85C trigger installed. I would be carrying the Atrox but there's no way I could force myself to do it since there were only 10 made. I'll post some pics of it later tonight. Oh, and my accu-shadow should be here sometime in the next couple weeks...pretty excited about that as well  :thumb:

What!!?? You got 1 of 10 Atrox??   I saw a picture of it and couldn't stop drooling.

I have Accu-Shadow and it's my favorite gun. But I wish it has thin safety like the one on the Atrox. Waiting for Rami style thin safety to be back in stock at CZC.

All the machine work and overall feel is amazing. It really does feel special, the pics don't do it justice.

Haha, it does say 8 of 10 on the slide :)  That's one super sweet looking gun. Would be even more awesomer if they put bushing on it like accu-shadow.

Woah, sweet glock! I was really having trouble deciding between the 17 and the 19 for an RMR host, ended up going with the 17 because it fits my hand a little better. I love how the 19 looks with an RMR though. Coupled with the stippling and front slide serrations, that's probably one of the most beautiful glocks I've ever seen  ;D

How do you like that Salient trigger? I'm thinking about getting that or the Zev Fulcrum for my 17L.

Unfortunately I have not shot it yet wit the salient trigger I get to pick it up next week, but I will provide feedback when I do.

I was planning to pick up the zev fulcrum trigger also for my Glock 30s also to compare...

Also same guy I bought this G19 from had a matching 17L he was selling also too... I was tempted on buying both but passed on the G17L
