Wow...that Dolch is amazing!  The striking contrast of the red plate...now I wish I had painted my plate red instead of silver!

Got something totally awesome in the mail today from the greatest Moose around! Glad to say that this is my very first vintage board, and a great one at that :D

Also got these a few days ago but haven't had the time to take pictures.

Soldapullt clone from banggood, just for the hell of it and a ton of blue switches that Ryan Uber sent to me for free! He's a great guy, and extremely kind.

Not really c: The model M was actually the prize I chose from Moose's raffle. The clone was only about $4 x) and the switches, I only paid for shipping.

I tried using clones for months at an internship. The clones are just terrible. They never draw enough suction. It's the reason why I was so skeptical of the actual Soldapult when I bought it. Good luck, hopefully you have a better experience than I did with my clones.

I wish my wife would let me get a Model M.  She heard me typing on the Unicomp I bought for my uncle (DOA check) and within 10 seconds she had already forbid me from using one in the house.  Sounds to me like I need to build a small media PC for the garage stereo and put a model M on that one.

Did you rip the stabs right off the board?

Picture was taken after I removed the stabilizer housing.  The left insert was (and still is) pretty much stuck in the space bar.  When I wiggled the space bar left and right, one of prongs keeping the insert in the housing had broken off.  I guess with one broken prong, the rest gave way and the insert popped out still stuck in the space bar.  Luckily, I had some extra chunkier Cherry inserts from a Wyse terminal board.  Lesson learnt, never press down on a SP space bar too firmly.  :(

Some people clip those little legs off on purpose, but only on PCB mount stabs, not plate mount. :)

Yeah, one of the 4 colors I ordered :)  I'll do a comparison when they are all here, but I'm happy that these ones light up just fine with 1.2kOhm resistors and are very bright already, though I went for the faintest warm whites I could find (most on eBay are in the thousands of mcds brightness range--I've seen up to 16000 mcd, which I thought would have burnt out my retinas :) )

For reference, the warm white LEDs I got are rated at 900-1100 mcd, and they are quite bright with 1.2 kOhm resistors already.  I even tried them at 50% brightness via TRiKer software--still bright enough.  Those were the faintest flat tops I could find (no 2x3x4mm warm white available for sale to the U.S. :( ).  I'll compare to full white LED brightness on my Ducky when more LEDs arrive.

I'm confused.  Moogle for your Pure?  What about the Shift and ~` key?

Maybe he already has a tsangan kit?

I'm just waiting on the short shift to arrive.  ;D

It seems odd that you (and people in general) are seeking the dimmest LEDs you can find.  Back in the day LEDs were so dim that you'd try to find the brightest ones!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Not the dimmest I can find in general.  You've missed the context!

Can anyone recommend me a white LED strip that can connect to USB? Nothing too fancy or huge, just for above my keyboard tray so I can see it at night.

I think you can buy little LED strips like that at Ikea. Pretty sure I saw that last time I was there.
