The a900x is a great headphone. I didn't hang on to mine because I prefer open headphones so I went back to my hd650s but for a closed headphone the sound incredible. I found them really balanced and clean sounding with some excellent bass. Enjoy them!!!

edit: I feel they are highly underrated and for the price they should be waaay more popular than most other headphones under $200... it's weird how some of the best stuff doesn't catch on. I have been through as many headphones as keyboards and this one was one of the best!

Thanks! It's funny you mention that though, because ultimately I do want to get a pair of open headphones because I do listen to music types that would probably sound better with open ear, and I'm actually thinking of picking up a pair of AD900X's early next year.

And yes, they are splendid for the price, and I even got a better deal, thanks to Demik <3 Primary reason I couldn't pass them up!

Can I ask why you prefer open, and how they are for gaming and movies? I have yet to try open :(

Agreed. I'm fairly new to the audio world but I must say that so far, I'm a convert. Can't go back to standard audio... It's almost like when you get a new pair of prescription glasses.

Can anyone recommend me a white LED strip that can connect to USB? Nothing too fancy or huge, just for above my keyboard tray so I can see it at night.

I think you can buy little LED strips like that at Ikea. Pretty sure I saw that last time I was there.

Glad to see you got your case and plate made Hoff, looks like they did a smashing job!
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Can I ask why you prefer open, and how they are for gaming and movies? I have yet to try open :(

Open is better for music, gaming and movies. I find that closed in general tends to not image as well, and sounds more in your head. Open to me still sounds in your head but is more enveloping. I feel open also creates a clearer image as the sound waves aren't being reflected back as much and so there is less cancelling of other sound waves. The result is a more 3 dimensional image with precise positioning and instrument separation and overall it comes across as less congested.

Bottom line is it sounds more spacious with good instrument separation and precise imaging. It is difficult to imagine if you haven't tried it, the closest thing would be a good set of speakers (in a good room). I highly recommend trying some open headphones. Though I would be careful with the ad900x as it a bit bass light compared to the closed version. It is difficult to build up sound pressure with an open headphone so many tend to be a bit bass light. If you like the frequency response of the a900x I would recommend the hd650/hd600 or if you want to spend less the hd558/598. There aren't many balanced sounding open headphones afaik.

Be careful, audio can be a very expensive hobby. It makes keycappery look like a weed addiction... The only thing I can say is do your best to try before you buy if at all possible. Also be careful with the advice you get over at headfi... there's some good stuff but it can be difficult to separate it from the bull****.

Yes, assembling is going to be so fun! I'm think of using blue switches with a white spacebar. I have some clears I could use but I think I am going to save those for my ergodox. I also have some whites I could use...

Very nice looking 40% board.

Do these actually work?

I don't find my eye straining at all while gaming, but I understand some people do.  Would they have any benefit for me?

Please also consider this a quick question - might open a new thread later on.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Just a little (potato) something something.

Used the cap puller to swap in the purple WASD and red Escape keys I ordered with my Leopold FC660C, not sure how I feel about the sound difference on the WASD keys (higher pitched) and might switch back even if I completely wear off my base WASD keys. Want to try inverting my spacebar too but I'm too chicken right now, don't want to screw it up.

Got the Gunnar Optiks RPG gaming glasses that I ordered from Woot for the bf as one of his presents for our anniversary :)

Do these actually work?

I don't find my eye straining at all while gaming, but I understand some people do.  Would they have any benefit for me?

Please also consider this a quick question - might open a new thread later on.
If you aren't having any issues with straining, then you won't see any benefit.

Ok, thanks.

Never had a problem with eyestrain while gaming, but I wear these at work because of the intense lights at my office. Definitely makes things easier on the eyes, noticeably less eye-strain and tired by the end of the day. With that said, the same thing could probably be achieved with f.lux

The Gunnars do provide benefit even if you don't currently have eye strain. They will significantly decrease chance of having eye strain in the future. That being said, I just use f.lux.

It's the business, every now and again I turn it off at midnight to remind myself just how good it is. Made such a huge difference to my sleep.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.
