There's this same questioning in video game collecting. Do we keep the games NIB or open them to play them? I never understood it though. The whole point of the keyboard is for the keyboard to be typed on. Otherwise it's a box with some plastic and metal bits inside. Keeping in the box gives you a warm fuzzy for 30 seconds when you look at it in the closet I guess.

I think guilt's a part of it. I knew I felt guilty using NIB Cherry caps. By opening up something old and NIB and using it, you're slowing destroying something that will never be made again.

But, the SSK is tough. I will open it and use it. If I had a second I would keep it sealed up though.

Shouldn't you feel guilty that you're not fulfilling it's purpose? It's like if you were the next Michael Jordan and practiced 12 hours a day. People knew you were great at basketball but you never played in any games. It's like you're withholding it's purpose in life.

FTFY.

Don't forget to double bag them to preserve freshness. ;)

I know this guy that collects toys.  He often buys two or more copies of particular models: one to open, play and display, while the other copies are kept for later resale.

I currently have no use for them, but I think it will make me very happy if I open them in 10 or 20 years and show them to my kids or something like that.

And... it just feels good to know that I have them.

And... I already have 6 SSKs to play with.

This is why I keep them factory sealed.

Nice, if only the HHKB could be Alu.  :(

People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

I dunno if I'd want my HHKB to be wrapped in metal =/
It's amazing as is and is super easy to carry around. An aluminum case for the HHKB would be nice but it wouldn't be portable anymore.

Yep.  I *accidentally* bought a NIB copy of Perfect Dark once, and it's just goofy.  I want to play the game cause it's fun, but I "can't" open it because it's NIB.  So what do I do?  I bought another one to play.  I think I'll just sell the NIB one to someone who's into that sort of stuff.  I can certainly understand the desire to want to keep things NIB, but then it just seems like a waste.  Especially since, for all you know, the keyboards could not even be inside!

Snoopy, if you ever want to sell one of your six SSKs, just let me know.  ;)

Oh man, I used to have all of my N64 boxes. When I sold the games to Discland, I dont even think it upped the price much. I do miss them though.

Some Kupilka cups. Not sure what I will be using them for but they were just too damn cool.
Probably shots though. :D

And a pair of Fjäll Räven Abisko trousers. They are basically really comfortable hiking pants with stretch panels and reinforcements, but cycling eats through everything eventually. :(

I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the closest thing is probably in the Strip District, the "cultural" and specialty shop area.

Well the Coffee crisps are widely available in Canada where Byker is located so technically it'd make more sense to get one from him rather than from Hoff's stash that he had to smuggle in the tires of his car. or have shipped from Canada, same thing.

Well the Coffee crisps are widely available in Canada where Byker is located so technically it'd make more sense to get one from him rather than from Hoff's stash that he had to smuggle in the tires of his car. or have shipped from Canada, same thing.

Yes it would.  :)  But I've already sent them out and they didn't cost too much to get to me, as Halverson shipped them from inside the US.  ;)

Now I'm tempted to spend $20 on a cup :))

You can carve your own from a piece of green wood.

I carved my first spoon this past summer.

You make a good logical point, and I did think that too :) But it'd also be rude to turn down Hoff's initial offer, and I wouldn't want to take advantage of Byker when Hoff already offered some. Don't wanna be greedy :P

If I end up liking them, I'll definitely have to take up Byker's offer to send me some, which I'd gladly pay this time around~~~ So very very kind~ <3

Thanks for the suggestion and tips, broski <3
