Bit confused after reading all of the above - how much is a RoG base set likely to come to then?  I get the $55 tier but what about this subsidy idea?  Might be tempted to change one of my RoW base sets to RoG depending on price.

As of the moment, it's $70 for the RoG Base set. If we can get enough(20 - i think we were potentially at 14 last time i checked) who said they would buy if we could hit the $55 benchmark, they just havent actually added it to their order.

If they do, it should encourage more people to add it also, and they can always cancel it when the time comes for payment.

If you want to get a RoG base/mods/what have you, then ORDER THEM. If the price doesn't get where you want it to be, then just exchange it, but don't let the current price make you not order them.

What I mean is that if this doesn't hit the $55 tier, of which we're currently ~5 away from, I'll still price it at that.  The total to get 10 sets of keys is $700 (10x$70), which we would then be about ($55x10=$550) $145 short and that needs to be made up some where.  That somewhere will be a dollar subsidy to everyone that ordered as I have at least 145 people ordering sets.  There are a couple people that have mentioned that if we hit the tier for 50 ($30 each or $1500), they would buy as well.  If I set the price floor at that($30/set), then depending on how many people give me a definite yes, that subsidy could be still anywhere from $1-5 per person.

Oh no! Don't cancel your order just because of the new shipping rates. How much is the difference between the shipping rates? You might get a sponsor to help you if you need it.

It's like $8 difference. Seriously can't justify $26 postage. I have a set of modifier keys on the way assuming they aren't posted back to where they are coming from anyway. So I shall just make do with what I already have. UPS has made it so that at the moment it won't be worth it for most international buyers to participate in GB's, sadly. It was $18 before.

$26 will be for however many sets I can stuff in a small flat rate box at this time.  This has been my stand by price simply because it was easy for me to calculate that price through USPS.com at the time I created the OP.  At that time, I was expecting this to be a mildly popular thing where about 50 people signed up and no one would order more than a 104key set.  At this point, with the price raising and a couple big overseas orders, that price is merely a placeholder depending on how many sets are ordered by the individual.  Also, I'm looking into different options and pricing for those that can't justify/are ok with slower shipping internationally.  For example, USPS.com now lets me see and order online for first class and it is at the original price of $18.  I think, considering that international buyers are the minority of my buyers, I'll personally verify with each what specific shipping option (fast or cheap) they would pay for at the time of invoicing.  For now, I'll leave the OP at $26 though.

That's a good idea for options, but those prices are out of date now, unfortunately. I think i3 mentioned earlier that even bubble mailers have doubled in cost to ship.  And keep in mind that almost everyone that's ordered internationally has ordered more caps than will fit in a bubble mailer anyways.  But again, I will work with essentially everyone individually on shipping, especially since it looks like international first class is doable online now.

As to RoG base kits, we are definitely getting them now that we have 16 people (possibly 18, waiting on a couple PMs and it may inspire me to get a set as well).  Now we hope that what happened with RoG mods happens with the base kit and I don't have to worry about subsizing costs at all.

Looking around on the USPS website & on here, I can see that my order (which runs to nearly 900 keycaps) will need a medium box which is $60 to the UK - but that's a bit of an exception to the rest!

So if i'm reading it correctly, I believe he means: even if the group buy ends with only 15 interested, he will purchase either 20, or 50 sets, and the extra set's prices will be split amongst everyone taking part, so instead of it costing those interested $70 a set, it would be lets say $32 to offset the cost of the extra caps. Obviously people not buying the set would be a little pissed, but hell... it's only a few $, consider it a "hosting fee" for him putting the GB together.

50 sets at $30 a piece is $1500
20 sets at $55 a piece is $1100
So that's a gap of $400 that needs to be made up via everyone taking part in the group buy. Hence everyone would pay a couple of dollars extra.
