Oh wow. I thought this would be pretty simple. Got to 4 keycaps and it started to wobble a bit. Then while trying this post I accidentally bumped it with my arm (since it was in front of my keyboard), knocking the keys over. By reaction I tried to catch the falling keycap with my leg, which I inadvertently slammed into my computer tower.

Let this be a warning  to everyone!!

Cool idea though.

What about doing it for the lulz?

How about a fair-play class, eligible for the prizes, and an un-fair, cheating, "Open" class that is entertaining but ineligible?

Dgsbllx was first in the Open class, IMHO.

p.s.  I always wondered what to do with those bags of OEM keycaps...

p.p.s.  Statues of horses and other reposts shouldn't count at all.   :p

I like keyboards and case modding.  Everything about a computer should be silent -- except the KEYBOARD!

We're strictly holding this contest on a honor system.
This contest is for joy and entertainment. Don't ruin the fun please.

And even if you can't beat some of the submissions here, feel free to submit your towers! Remember, we will be randomly picking 1 submission for a free keycap! It doesn't hurt to take a picture of a minimum of 4 keycaps stacked! Be creative! Get colorful!

If we do however catch you cheating, you will be disqualified from any further competitions.

I had wondered about this too. I really hope no one's desperate enough to do it just for three novelty keys (even though they are great keys!).

Tip for other people trying this - thick keys work better than thin ones! And choose the flattest profile :)

Sorry for posting a big one so early, KeyPop - I hope it doesn't deter others! I'm certain it can be beaten.

Those lambda keys stack really easily - is that allowed in the rules?

If not, I am happy to retract the above entry :)

So this is what I get for trying to post a helpful tip for others trying this...

I found that heavier keys were more stable than thin SP-style keys. I genuinely want to see people put up crazy high stacks, more competition is fun.

And looks like kmiller8 has done just that :P Just you wait!

Come on people! We're encouraging you to post your attempts!

We've added a leader board!

Right now as it is we only have 4 entries!

That means when we hold the raffle, the 4th entry automatically gets a free keycap :0

Participate! Remember, it's not the size that matters but the effort you put into it  ;) ;)

Uniform yes. Flat tops, not exactly. Slight indent. They fit together pretty nice.

Should have made it so everyone had to use caps of the same profile ha! Seems like it makes too much difference. But I guess that's a part of the fun.

It does - rule 1: "Stack as many keycaps as you can! (Must all be the same profile!)".

But lol how long did it take to stack all those up?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

The time they didn't fall down and explode around the room? A couple minutes. Times trying? About 30 minutes to an hour while watching The Simpsons.
