Yeah, switched from cigarettes (was a very casual/social smoker in fairness) to e-cigs at the beginning of this year, then found myself wanting to "smoke" them less and less, even though quitting wasn't my intention, and now I don't smoke/vape anything really. I used a Joyetech 510 Titan Tank, tried a whole bunch of flavours but found all the non-tobacco/menthol ones to be gross, frankly.

Much like Malphas, I switched to e-cigs as a party-time alternative, but i've taken to vaping far more than I ever smoked, and I really enjoy the non-tobacco tastes of it.

I picked up a simple Volt starter pack from smokelessimage.com and a couple of packs of assorted cartomizers. A lot of the "fruit" ones are that disgustingly sweet taste of childrens tylenol, but the mint and menthol flavours, as well as the chocolate and vanilla are really rather good. My wife likes cappucino.

I'm pretty new myself, but if you want to get into one for 20 bucks or less shipped (there's a coupon, voltsave15 I think it is for 15 percent off at smokeless image) you get a nicely packaged cigarette-style battery that gets great reviews with a little USB charger and a 5 pack of cartos.

If you want to know more check out the ecig board at reddit. they have reviews, suggestions and guides much like GH does for KBs

^^ Awesome, thanks. I'm going to try a few of the disposable kind to start. I've tried them before and liked them well enough. They make E Hookahs now and they sound really good. I'm gonna try those as well.

Yes I have been vaping for over three years and I'm about to hit my third year anniversary of not having smoked a cigarette. I'm an ECF forum veteran under the same handle m00nshake. The key to switching successfully is investing in a good electronic cigarette. When I started my current job, I was the only person who vaped. Some coworkers who smoked got curious and asked me what they needed. Three of them successfully switched and all of those did so after investing in a good electronic cigarette and some guidance. Those who failed only invested in a cheap electronic cigarette. Investing in a good mod does a couple of things, it shows that you are really willing to give it an honest shot when you plunk down a few hundred dollars, it also makes sure you get an electronic cigarette that hits hard, is adjustable to your liking, is sturdy, and that has good battery life.

Could you give me an example of a good one? The ones I've tried went about $150 and the guy made it sound like the moon landing was easier than cleaning the e Cig.

Sorry I was typing on my phone and it's really hard to type anything in great detail. I would advise against the cheap disposable e-cigs. They simply don't work well and the rate of switching back to smoking is much higher. I would recommend purchasing:

1. Provape Provari v2 (www.provape.com)

You would need to purchase, the Provari mod, two high drain batteries, one battery charger, one tank, drip tip)

2. Disposable BOGE 510 cartomizers (www.vaporkings.com or www.goodprophets.com)

3. Jig and punch *this is where you punch a hole in the cartomizer before putting it into the tank* (I'll have to look into where to get one nowadays)

4. Liquids *it is very important to get good liquids. If you're trying to get something that tastes like a cigarette, get a couple of tobacco liquids but also get something fruit flavored and dessert flavored, just to try. If you do switch away from cigarettes, you'll soon realize the non-tobacco flavors are much tastier*

www.ahlusion.us (they have some of the best flavors out there, period, all organic flavoring, my personal favorite)

www.backwoodsbrew.net (they are said to have some of the best tobacco flavors)

www.avejuice.com (they've got Boba's Bounty which is arguably the most popular tobacco e-liquid around)

www.rawrvapor.com (if you like menthol, there's not another place better. Try the Strapple)

www.shopcoppercreek.com (they've also got some fine e-liquids and are definitely worth a shot. I really like House Blend)

Okay here's exactly what you need, minus the liquids. Now I recommend going this route and not with rebuildable atomizers because it's more difficult. This is really super easy. And no these are not difficult to clean. One tank filled with liquid will last you from the morning until the night. The cartomizer has to be replaced around once a week (when it starts dropping in performance or feels clogged). Buy two batteries so one is always fully charged while you're using the other one. One 18500 battery will last you around 12 hours before a recharge is needed.

I just started smoking again recently because of a damn woman, so I'm not totally worried about going back to cigarettes, but the thing is I like smoking so I want a substitute for when I want it. I'm gonna have to give these a serious try. Right now, I'm on the Nicitrol Inhaler, which takes off the edge but there is no smoke, which feels like I'm doing anything.

Yes ECF is absolutely massive. The people there are very helpful. It's amazing how similar to GH it is. The people are very helpful, like a big family, and they've got rare items there that are as hard to find and sell as quickly as clacks or Korean keyboards go here.

That being said... I'm definitely willing to help you in any way possible to get you on the right track with e-cigs. You can ask here on this thread if you find something confusing or are not sure what to do, you can also pm me, I can even give you my e-mail and phone number. I will do anything I can to help you make the switch from smoking cigarettes.

I used to wake up and feel like an elephant was sitting on my chest. Now, I run 7-8 miles a day, 6 days a week, and have never felt better in my life. I hope you make the switch, too. :)

Okay, well then it'll be very easy for you, and I totally understand about the woman part. I started smoking again years ago as a result of the very same thing. It was while I was living in Cambodia and started with just a cigarette while drinking with my friends at the pub. Within six months I was smoking a pack a day.

Check out the links and please let me know if you have any questions about anything. Like I said, I'm definitely here to help.

It's only been 2 1/2 months. It started with fat cigars for me, then I was at a pack and a half a day. I got down to less than a pack a day, then I started rolling own to make it an even worse experience. I can kick that easy, since I'm well into the "I hate that b1tch" phase, so I think I'm ready to give it up.

Well of course the best is to just stop. With ecigs, sure it's better than smoking but who knows if vaporizing nicotine and flavorings every day is completely healthy, either. If you think that you'll just need an ecig occasionally then making the investment on a high end mod may or may not be beneficial. Like keyboards, e-cigs can become a hobby you can get wrapped in quite quickly.

Interesting. I switched almost 2 years ago. Liking coconut flavour at the moment. Use a tornado tank at the moment but thinking of getting an Odyssey http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.co.uk/products/odyssey-products.html
Never really got to understand the cartomiser idea or mods, resistance or variable voltage...
Be interested in educated opinion of the Odyssey...

I don't have any experience with this device but I think it's just a standard 3.7v device. The problem with standard 3.7v devices is that it doesn't provide the kick that something thats a vv (variable voltage) device will. To me, this seems like the Razer Black Widow of the e-cig world. Check the ECF for more experienced opinions on the best mods out there, but right now, the Provari and the Darwin I think are still considered one of the most popular.

A cartomizer is basically an atomizer and a cart combined in one. That means the coil which heats the liquid into a vapor, and the filter which holds the liquid, are both in a single unit. What you do with a cartomizer is you punch a small hole in it using a carto punch. You can also slot it with a dremel but very few people do this anymore. Then you push it through the bottom part of a tank. You fill the tank with e-liquid. You put the cap on with the tip. When you pull on the tip like you were smoking a cigarette, the liquid pulls through the hole in the cartomizer and saturates the filter. The coil inside the cartomizer heats up the liquid into a vapor you're inhaling.

The difference between a standard mod and a vv mod is that with a vv mod, you can increase or decrease the voltage, which makes strengthens how hard it hits. This is important because you can adjust it to your liking. For example, when I use a standard 3.7 volt mod, it doesn't feel like I'm getting a good hit from it. I usually keep my variable voltage mods at around 4.2-4.5 volts.

Here's an example of what a tank system looks like. The cartomizer is the silver tube in the middle. Notice the hole, that was punched using the carto punch and that's where the liquid feeds to the filter inside the carto. The tank is a lava tank and the top piece serves as a tip as well.

I'm going to buy disposables for now to see if it's something I like enough. They cost $6-8 at gas stations now, so why not give it a shot?

Electronic cigarettes can be daunting at first. If you really want to start with something inexpensive, start in the middle, get a couple of Egos, a pack of 2.0 cartomizers, a drip tip, and some liquid. You can get all of that in a kit from TotallyWicked. The disposable ones with automatic cut offs and filters at stores don't work well at all. All of the people I've met who have one were telling me about it while they were smoking a cigarette. They just don't provide enough punch to equal that of a real smoke.

I used to smoke.  That was my opinion on them, as well.
But, I was only looking for a replacement for the nicotine.  Seems that a lot of these other vaporizing herbs and flavors are non-nicotine, now.

I got a dosposable from a perol station for like $10 about a month ago, and just got an actual one from a V4L store here in Chicago.  I'm not too sure how I feel about it yet.  It's nice at work when I can't take a break,  but when I can, I go smoke an actual cigarette.

I bought a Blu and an Etron disposable and they both are really enjoyable. They pull good and offer a satifying hit. I don't have the money to buy $300 worth of parts I don't understand as my first setup, so I am going to buy the V2Cigs kit (with the 25% storewide sale) because every fanatic has a few pieces, and this is the best rated one available. After I play with that and am over smoking analogs, I'll look into getting a new works.

I posted over there once or twice so far. I tried to send you a pm but I either am not able yet or I couldn't figure it out.

Yeah, I'm using the eTron menthol disposable until my order comes in. I can't wait to get into e-juice and refilling carts. I also want that V2 travel unit that doesn't have a battery because you plug it in to a 5v plug and vape away.

I've been on youtube watching every V2 vid I could find. Seems like a good starter product. I'll get into other more advanced systems but not until I have some understanding of them. I know I probably sound like a guy who wants to give the Black Widow one more chance before he buys a Filco, but quitting smoking was the most important thing.

BTW, are there any carts or juices that really taste like Coca-Cola? I have read reviews of some that "taste like lemon drops," which would turn me into the Hulk.

Once again don't buy a V2, they're just rebrands and a way to rip off naive people.. A 510 or an Ego or similar isn't complicated, are among the most compatible and widespread systems you can get for third-party accessories etc. later, and they're inexpensive.

I'm still going to go ahead and say that i've been very happy with my Volt products. They regularly have sales of ~20-25% on their entire stock, VIA their newsletter. You get "points" that you can use towards future purchasing and more often than not, the 16% discount from using the promo code (believe it's VoltSave16) often covers the entirety of the shipping. I got into the whole business for about 30 bucks shipped with 10 cartos, a single battery and a charger and I've been very happy with it.

A lot of people seem to disrespect the small "traditional cigarette" looking batteries, but i've been very happy with mine and refilling the cartomizer is a breeze, even considering I have an automatic battery. AFAIK you can still use whatever brand of e juice you care to, but I use the Volt stuff because hey, go with what you know.

The volts are far and beyond what you'd ever get with the disposables. I bought about 15 Metro disposable e cigs and was pretty happy with them "They don't produce much vapour, and sometimes they leak, but for 8 bucks they're alright" I thought.

Save yourself the trouble. The flavour variety, consistency and quality are all substantially higher with the volts. for the cost of 3-4 disposables I got into the volt starter kit, and I only wish I would have done it sooner. You don't need to spend 150 bucks just to get into e cigs. If you're on a budget and you don't need to brag about it to your freinds, go for a Volt. They get great reviews, they produce great clouds, good flavours and come in 0-2.4% nicotine so if you're trying to scale down you can do that too.

http://smokelessimage.com/starter-kits/voltbasic.html

EDIT: Just rememberd that until the end of the day today (26th) you can use the code SUPER26 to save 26% off your purchase before shipping.
A basic starter kit for 23.33 isn't that bad.

So... not that I smoke, but what is the size comparison of these to an "analog"? Also, how do you clean these things? Finally, can you use any oil, theoretically, such as cooking oil/marijuana oil? I don't have an interest in these, but was just curious about them.

I bought some V2 products. Sorry peeps. I want something easy and not overly complicated for my first time out. I got 35% off on the stuff, and bought some clearance items so I essentially got the $50 starter kit for $30 but with the 10 cart sampler instead of 5 of two flavors.

Because of my dreadlocks, there is no way I'm gonna be walking around or hanging outside my work sucking smoke out of something that looks like a vibrator. I would end up in prison with no trial. So the cig look is a must for me.

I also ordered 15 mL of Johnson Creek Tundra, but the thing I'm worried about is it's 100% VG, so I will have to let it steep and maybe mix it with some PG e-juice to get it to vape right.

And I don't think you can vape THC out of one of these because the temp for it is way higher than nicotine. (I searched for opium flavored juice but had no luck finding it, lol).

So... not that I smoke, but what is the size comparison of these to an "analog"? Also, how do you clean these things? Finally, can you use any oil, theoretically, such as cooking oil/marijuana oil? I don't have an interest in these, but was just curious about them.

The average e-cig, like a 510, has three parts: 1. the battery 2. the atomizer 3. the cartridge.

When you put all three of these together, it is comparable to the circumference and length of a regular cigarette. It was meant to look like a cigarette. The problem with the ones that look like a regular cigarette is poor battery life. The batteries in them are small, so they only last a couple of hours before they need a recharge. The big battery mods like the ones I have, the battery lasts around 24 hours, but the mod is much larger because it has to hold a much larger battery.

Cleaning is dependent. The part where the liquid goes, the cart, is disposable, so after a few days to a week, you just throw it out and put on a new one. If you wanted to, you could boil and and let it dry, then re-use them. I just throw them out as they're very cheap. For the battery contacts, etc, you use rubbing alcohol. For cleaning the threads, you use Noalax.

I'm not sure how vaporizing cooking oil would work. Will cooking oil turn into a water vapor when you heat it? I don't know. Marijuana oil, or hash oil, well, there are are already vaporizers sold for those things that work off a similar technology, so I"m assuming the answer is yes to them.

I wasn't serious on the cooking oil portion, it was just an oil I could quickly think of. LOL.

If you want to see something interesting people are vaping and that's all the rage now *and difficult to obtain no less*, google 'radioactive Pluid'

Do you mean "radiator Pluid"? Is it just an Absinthe flavor or does it get you high?

Oops yes radiator pluid. It's an absinthe flavor, it does not get you high. But it's all the rage now, I guess because it glows green in tanks.

I've found so much kit threaded for 808s now, so I'm happy. I really want the USB passthrough automatic. No battery, just chill and vape away. I am not upset I started with V2cigs, but in retrospect, the batt I bought on clearance was the same price as what is regularly out there for 808 standard batteries, so I see what you guys mean.

I got my first bottle of e-juice, a day before my vape is supposed to arrive (figures) but I was able to fill up one of my old disposables with it. It is so much better in so many ways than the standard juice they come with. I was shocked. BTW, I got Johnson Creek Tundra, 100% VG in 1.1% nic. I had no clue that was a Wisconsin company. I'll order from them again based on that and the quick delivery alone.

Johnson creek smoke juice makes good liquid, and they're the only company in the United States that know of that actually do so in a real laboratory. They are a tad expensive, though. I'm assuming Tundra is a menthol liquid. If you like menthol liquids try  Rawr or Ahlusion, they're both quite good. I usually save money by ordering large bottles. You can also make liquids yourself very cheaply, but I can't be bothered to mess with it.

I have those sites bookmarked from earlier in this thread :)

I don't want to make my own either ... yet.

But I have another question for you. http://smokelessimage.com/batteries/x2-battery/x2-volt-battery.html This is threaded for 808s, right?

I bought some V2 products. Sorry peeps. I want something easy and not overly complicated for my first time out.
What did you not understand exactly about the fact V2 kits are marked-up rebrands marketed at naive people and that alternatives like the ones from Joyetech are no more complicated, as well as being cheaper and superior? Speaking of naive people, you honestly think you got 35% off? That's like those furniture stores that are constantly having a "MASSIVE CLEARANCE SALE" with everything reduced by 50%+. It's not an actual sale/discount, it's a marketing gimmick to make stupid people think they're getting a deal.
