You get used to it. As I said in my previous thread which is now closed, "it just looks so wrong, but it just feels so right." :))

I actually love the look of it now, looks so inviting to my thumbs  :))
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

I should probably mention though, that the FC660C is the only keyboard where the spacebar actually felt sharp enough to be flipped. My other keyboards aren't like that at all for some reason.

I know what you mean. The FC 660C's spacebar was especially bad where it was angled in a certain way that the bottom edge was pointing up and was literally the tallest point of the switch. Cherry profile space bars are not as bad and mostly bearable, but I still prefer it that none of my thumb touches the edge.

flipped my WASD V1 yesterday, it will never be switched back, also when I finish my new QFR it will follow suit.

Glad to see we have a few converts in as short as less than 24 hours :D

It's not for everyone, I think. From what I've seen, it's been more desirable for those with smaller hands where the thumb is angled more lateral, but maybe some just like the feel of the edge too. Whatever makes you happy :D But what's important is that you at least tried it out.

What board did you flip it on? Your Poker, or QFR?

I found with the QFR flipping the spacebar wasn't necessary, but on my Poker it's a must.

For those curious as to what I mean when I say that my thumb hits the flipped spacebar flat without hitting the edge, here's a video that kind of shows you what I mean. Pay attention to my right thumb:

I'm still undecided about this.  I just switched back from Model M to HHKB, but I am enjoying the HHKB now as the maker intended ;)

One day I will try flipping space bar.  I have a couple of MX keycap sets on the way (actually 2 in the mail atm I hope) so I might try with one of those when it arrives.

It really depends on how low or high your keyboard is.  I keep my keyboard on the keyboard tray, so my thumbs press flat on the spacebar with it in the stock position.  I do no use a wrist rest, but I do try to angle my hands and fingers less flat than seen in the video above.  On my higher keyboard, which is an Apple aluminum BT, the spacebar and all keys are flat anyhow.  It's also substantially thicker.

I tend to think flat keycaps are better anyways.  If the edge of the spacebar key is bothersome to you, then it's possible the edges of all the keys (particularly the corners) are as well.

Another thing to consider is the fact that so many people enjoy the feeling of flipping the spacebar and some/all other keys on their boards.... goes to show that the standard keycaps really aren't designed to be particularly ergonomic.

Thank you for the laugh Moose!

I flipped my spacebar this weekend, and it flipped my perspective on life.

I didn't try to flip the stabilizers though. That would be just too much for my body to handle right now.

It does look totally weird, and my first instinct is still to say "you've put it on the wrong way around".

I am yet to gather enough courage to try this myself, but OTOH I do not have a problem with space bars in the conventional orientation.

I didn't really have a problem with the conventional orientation either, but I tried it out anyway out of curiosity a lil' over a year ago... my world was changed... Try it now... Just do it. It'll only take like 30 seconds to do it :P

Not while I am at work repairing a server, maybe when I get home (he said, knowing full well that he is currently using a Model M at home and those space bars cannot be flipped).  OTOH I might switch back to my Ducky which I am kinda missing, and try there.  Cherry stabs too, so no fiddling around with Costar inserts.

At first, I was like WTF work?! It's 2 AM, then I realized you were in my old hometown :)) Sounds like a plan. Let me know what you think! Give it a day, at least. If you say you don't like it after some good typing sessions for a day or two, I can't say otherwise :P

As promised, space bar flipped:

My intention is to take this in to work for a while as I am missing the MX blacks that this board has.

I am expecting comments about the green, and probably something along the lines of "did you know the space bar is backwards" :))

Using it at work now, and tbh I thought I would feel the difference more than typing, but nope.

What I feel most is the texture on the space bar.

Having the space bar with the conventional orientation never really bothered me, so I'll keep it like this for a week or two, then swap and see if it is any different.

I would probably say that the difference is more negligible because they're OEM height. I think the effect is more pronounced on lower caps, with the SP spacebar being the most pronounced due to the angle of the bottom row.

Possibly, yes.  This one does still feel different.

So far I do not have a Cherry profile space bar to try - hopefully soon, there are a couple of GBs coming to fruition over the next month or two, which will be long enough for the flipped OEM space bar experiment to proceed.

I can agree with this. Cherry profile imsto thick PBT caps and the Leopold 660 series spacebars have really sharp edges and angle. The difference when flipped on those are much more significant. Unfortunately, I have no experience with SP spacebars but I'd take moose's word for it.

I think this might be making a little bit more of a difference for people that are sitting their wrists on the desk while typing, since it causes your palms to be not parallel to the keyboard. The angle of flipped space bar is making you very happy. When key cap profiles were designed it was probably not expected that a lot of people would type that way. I type without resting my wrists and my thumb hits a stock fitted (thick pbt cherry) space bar completely flat.

I type with my hands raised slightly from the desk and have no wrist rest.

Between typing I tend to rest my palm heels on the desk in front of the keyboard.

Also I have noticed that I almost always use my right thumb on the space bar.

Looking at these pictures there is a more obvious profile difference with Cherry.  In the wrong light OEM (as I have) might be misconstrued as slightly out of alignment.

I'm still persisting (haven't really noticed much difference), but I'll try it again when a set of Cherry profile caps comes my way.

Weird, I'm the opposite. The angle is much more extreme on my HHKB when flipped.

sp spacebars benefit the most from flipping, because the angle is so sharp. others, not as much.

I never tried a flipped spacebar until yesterday when a CCnG set came in. The sharp angle bothered me, and flipping made it so much better.

I was totally dismissive of this idea while reading through this thread at first. Then I tried it

It seriously feels amazing! This is such a simple change that totally transforms the feel of the spacebar. It looks like ass but feels good enough that I will happily live with it.

I've tried it, I stuck with a flipped space bar for a couple of months.

It really didn't make any difference to me.  People say it feels amazingly better.  I didn't get that.

Plus it grated on my aesthetics sensibilities ;)

I accidentally installed my new spacebars on backwards and now I feel like I'm in God mode. It feels amazing. Definitely worth trying!

I'm also a fan of flipped space bar  ;)
However, I prefer flipped space bar on my keyboards with Costa stabilizers only

I'm not sure if I like flipped space bar on my keyboards with Cherry stabilizers or not.
I like linear switches

Good looking board!!! Love it :) Also, I agree with you that it definitely feels better flipped on costar than on cherry. Some might argue that costar just feels better than cherry in general.

It's a lot more comfortable for me to rest my thumb there, especially when playing League  :thumb:

Looks weird though, I agree.

Am I the only one who presses the spacebar with his right index finger?
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?
