So long fella.

For the record it was a self imposed permaban.

Certainly, but like dante already pointed out, it's too much drama for a keyboard forum. It only creates unnecessary negativity when the ban of a user is heavily discussed. There was already a long thread when he was given a temporary ban, which only resulted in users exacerbating the commotion.

Mods should at least sum up the reason for the ban and edit it into the first post of the topic, so we don't end up with users starting conspiracies.

I think he was banned because he was opposed to freemasonry, and had to be quieted, lest his posts against them cause an uprising of the people.

So he got banned, then for unbanned, and now is banned again for good?

I think a good description of what exactly went down would clear some things up.

I feel like he would have to have done a pretty terrible thing to have gotten perma banned. He was one of the most knowledgable people on this form when it came to anything keyboard related.

The mods obviously know what's best, but I believe myself and others would like to know what he did to deserve a perma ban exactly.

Dan was getting mad with the moderation on GH. I'm sure you'll be able to find him at his blog, his email (once you reach him at his blog), and perhaps DT.

He did ban himself though, despite leaving, he is banned nonetheless. Kinda like if you go on a diet, doesn't change the fact that you're eating healthier no matter if you're on a diet or not. I'm sad to see him go... Rather upset now that the day finally came. Oh well I suppose.

he asked mods to ban him? what the **** is this?
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

It is a shame when long-standing community members back out for controversial reasons.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Guys, he asked to be banned.
Personally i find this action is to bring more attention/drama to him, thus his way of thinking how GH should be run.

If he had no interest in GH any longer, delete GH from your favorites and clear your cookies/history.
Asking to be banned is more being a drama queen imo.

Unless he doesn't have the willpower to not visit GH himself.

Yeah he asked to be IP banned in case he has the urge to come back. Don't think he was creating drama though, was just a solution that worked for him. Or else you'd see an elaborate goodbye post or something.

the concept of banning yourself is ridiculous.
asking for your account to be deleted?  sure.
asking to be banned because you're afraid you'll have the urge to come back?  self control

I asked for an account deletion, but the admin team said it would be more difficult to do that and they sounded hesitant for going that route.  So I asked for a self-ban since I'm no longer interested in that community.  I'd say they finagled the words a bit in their favor, but it is what it is.  (i.e. "So you're saying you deny our lifting the ban" or something like that)

I'm here and I'm on reddit (and on OTD and KBD)!

Foundation and Earth - just finished (re)reading it the other day too.  I must say I was never keen on the way he merged the Foundation arc into the Robots arc, I feel they worked well seperatly so why join them... then again, Heinlein did the same thing towards the end - maybe it's just something ageing authors do, seek to bring their creations together in on happy family.
