Has anyone ever tried to produce the red plastic key cap holder of Cherry? I know there were threads and small discussion, but has anyone ever modeled it digitally or looked into it?

What keycap holder are you referring to? Not quite sure what you mean.

I've never seen anything like that on the market or in MST. RabRhee made something similar to that though.

The only thing remotely close easily available for purchase and somewhat cheap is these

http://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=access,cherrymxkeys&pid=us104_case

I think if you want multiples and email them they can get the shipping to be a little cheaper than what shows up when checking out.

Those are ok but are a little pricey. I haven't checked lately I assume they are the same.

I've got a few MY boards I've been meaning to do something with....stick those stems in an acrylic sheet or something...

I bought 5 of the those, but the layout is slightly off for sets (on top of not having enough places for large, full sets), and I'm considering whether I want to try and obtain a red Cherry one and look into having it produced, and altered for even larger sets. All just brainstorms at the moment; hence the question.

Edit - The SP option is slightly too expensive (and one I've contemplated since I noticed them). And the Keypop one isn't to my liking, layout and construction-wise. Not really on top of the aspect of hiding key caps.

I wonder if SP would give us a group buy discount if we bought enough of them?

Originative doesn't seem to be selling springs anymore (they are out of stock and nont planning on restocking); where else can one purchase springs (In the 45g to 65g weights)?

Hm...maybe just the classifieds at this point. I can't recall any other retailers that carry them off the top of my head.

why are so many people on this forum capable of taking such gorgeous photos? i thought photography is up there in terms of difficulty, or maybe there's just a lot of overlap between the two hobbies. either way, i'm very grateful for those who provide the forum with its daily dose of keyboard porn

Like many others, I got into photography because of this site. Not that my pictures are great but I'm far from the only person who has bought a nice camera (read dslr or micro 4/3) because of this site. And even without a proper tool, there's plenty of examples and info on how to make the most of say your cell phone camera.

I just noticed one of my blue alps switches is actuating before the click, so I can actuate it with very little force. It's not that big of an issue but if there's some easy fix that I can perform by popping the switch open I'd like to take care of it. Any ideas? Am I potentially making a big mistake by attempting to mess with the internals?

You can try swapping out the internals.  Alps can be tricky to put back together, but I've found it's easiest to put the switches back together if you hold the keyboard upside down. If you do it that way, you shouldn't have any issues.

It could just be the leaf or something.  IME, clicky Alps are some of the more temperamental ones as they age.

If you check my review, I talk about fixing an alps switch and the internals in my Kingsaver. It won't be an issue, just read up about it.

I have a board with black slider clone alps (don't remember but I think someone linked what they were). They're clicky, but some of the switches feel pretty scratchy going down, and some are moderately sticky. Should I just try cleaning the sliders? I know you shouldn't lube blues, but does that apply for all clicky switches?

Can't hurt to lube the switches. But I've found that from my own experiences, lubing a clicky switch kills the click.

I have no idea where to ask this so I thought I would ask here...

I have seen a few people put dip sockets in there builds for led's.
http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=58969.0

then I found feng's groupbuy for a keyboard with removable switches and leds that appear to have smd mounted dip sockets?

I used a solution of 10% hydrogen peroxide and a big spoon of some oxi cleaner powder, worked very well. It should be cheap and easily available, why do you want to go with something else?

How many parts hydrogen peroxide did you use to the oxi powder? And also where did you find it?

Unlubed 65g clears feel really sluggish on the upstroke to me. I like the feeling of unlubed clears with MX Black springs but would like it to be just a little lighter while still maintaining the snappiness. Do lubed 68g clears sound like an answer to this?

I have used clear stems (not sure how used they were though as I bought them second hand) with 18 month old springs from the browns in my Das with no sticking and no lube.

Hmm, weird. I just tried that on a couple switches and it feels like it sticks a lot.

It's stuck for me when I tried those stock springs as well.  I've run into sticking issues all the way up to 62g springs, especially if there isn't any lube.

How many parts hydrogen peroxide did you use to the oxi powder? And also where did you find it?

I don't know how much solution I had, but it was enough to bathe the upper case of my K110 and its caps in. Just add a teaspoon, it's there to provide TAED and you don't need much of it, I don't think anything bad can happen if you use too much (I did and nothing special happened).

Edit: I got mine from a pharmacy, forgot to mention that.

How to reduce noise of costar stabilizers? Stabilizer insert and spring make noise when bumping.

Why, grease, of course. :)

White lithium grease specifically. Applied where the metal bar meets the plastic clip.
Thanks. I'll try to buy after work. This noise is annoying. Can I use silicone or graphite grease instead lithium?
Silicon grease also work pretty well (I used Liqui Moly Silicon-Fett)

Are these basically what swill used or closer to what DeeLonG has engineered onto his pcb?

Looks like the smart 68 is using something similar to that pcb mounted dip sockets from advanced. Can't tell for sure though.

It has been done, but might have gotten lost in the R00tw0rm fiasco.

All just hacksaw/Dremel cutting, making the case look good is the only hard part. The membranes are not cut, just folded under and tucked in around the back.

Citizens United violates the essence of what made America a great country in its political system. Now it’s just an oligarchy, with unlimited political bribery being the essence of getting the nominations for president or to elect the president.
So now we’ve just seen a complete subversion of our political system as a payoff to major contributors, who want and expect and sometimes get favors for themselves after the election’s over.”
