$16? Can't pass that up! Never tried ML, this should be interesting. Thanks for the link!

Hey so that ebay link is a decent keyboard to try out ML switches? Is the keyboard any good? When I see $15 price, it reminds me of shhitty rubber domes. I'm must about over the price shock of $100+ mx keyboards.

The same keyboard lists in the $60-70 range.

They are better than rubber dome but one thing you may not realize is that they are a 9/10ths keyboard.  The layout is compact, but in addition the keys are smaller than usual and are therefore smooshed closer together.  It feels very cramped at first.  Similar to Netbooks.

Yeah I was gonna say, $16 is a really good deal.  I've even seen some go up to $100 on ebay.

EDIT:  LOL just saw this video on youtube almost died laughing.

No, they aren't. Just measured it—most keys are more or less the same size as Cherry DS on my choc mini.

The buttons are smaller only on the bottom row. But there is something weird about typing on that board. I can't type a sentence without misclicking something on the right side of the board. The ML switch doesn't seem to be good for long typing as well. It seems that you need to hit them with 90 degrees angle precisely, otherwise it will scrath or even get stuck. The only situation where I imagine myself using this, would be some working environment where you need to type several words or numbers and keep going with your own business.
This board is not what a typical enthusiast is looking for. It has a very specific area of use and this board sucks everywhere outside it. I'm not bashing it as a product, but if you're looking for the feel and comfort, you gotta skip the ML.

Haha that video. If you're not allowing a doctor to show off his terrible handwriting, at least make him mistype a lot.

well i liked it..and i really did not think i would, got 2 of them for cheap on ebay, maybe i got a good one idk. i think they are a mix between low travel mx blacks/clears. also if anyone is interested i am looking at putting in a metal backplate and doing a sort of bolt mod to improve sturdyness and typing feel

RougeR;

Please copy me as well on any mods you try, I actually like the smaller format for this board, and I think it could be made substantially better with a few tweaks.

Let me know if you need any donor boards.  I have one of the black ML boards with the integrated trackball (G84-4420LPBEU-2, I think) that you can use for practice, I should be getting the space-saver version in the mail any day now.

LOL I know eh I ordered 2.  I wonder how they get to sell it so cheap though, hopefully they're still making money so they'll keep this up.

I don't know which specific person you are talking about but i just got mine about a week ago from Ebay brand new and i love it. It isn't as great as my HHKB but for the price I got it for it is one of the best mini keyboards out there. I think the few complaints i have is that the delete key is small so it takes some getting used to and the keys do feel like there is some friction there. Some people mentioned putting lube on them but i don't think i will. I am afraid i will mess up the keyboard.

My US friend got it yesterday.  So I should have it up in Canada in another week  >___>

Took about 5 days but she lives in the west coast so maybe that's why it took longer.

So if I get this board and lube it, does that require removal of the switches from the PCB? Curious about the feel of these "lubed short-throw cherry browns" but don't wanna get into soldering and all that. Can you just dab it (silicon grease) in there with a q-tip?

Desoldering is not required to pop off the switch tops:

Where exactly should grease be applied?

I'm no expert in this but I'm guessing the skinnier area (top middle) is the "slider" and the fatter area (bottom square) are the housing.  So I'd assume you just lube the exposed area of the slider?

Any expert here feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I got this yesterday. Honestly, it's meh. Someone referred to this as "typing on wet newspaper" and I agree.
I wasn't expecting anything but it was rather disappointing. I'll just keep this as a a back up emergency keyboard.

^ What he said.

MY switch is the one that people say absolutely sucks and ML is decent while not amazing.

Did you try to lube it?  Apparently it's the turning point of ML switch.  If anyone can provide a lubing guide that would be great !!!

If anyone can provide a lubing guide that would be great !!!

Just open it up and see where all the points that rub on each other, and lube it. Not that hard. When I get mine I'll let you know. From the looks of it based on that pic, there are 4 sliders, and a spring you'll have to lube. Maybe the bottom too if you want to spend the time.

I think it works. I mean it is def getting lube down into the contact points. But I personally am not feeling much of a difference compared to the unlubed switches...maybe you will.

So I tried pulling the switch off the board, it seemed tougher than it should be...felt like i was squeezing too hard on the switch with pliers..not getting enough grip to pull it off. Bah!

well I got mine in. I must say, I really like the feel of these switches. Makes me more interested in getting my hands on a Topre short throw. Although the lack of a Windows key is really a PITA on Windows 8 :( And totally right about the lube. These things feel dry as hell.

I immediately opened it up when I got, and noticed that the tiny little daughter board with the chip seemed the right size to swap out with a teensy++. I think I just might get my hands dirty and make this little bad boy reprogrammable.

I used the G84-4100 for 10 years, maybe more. They had printed legends and after a while they started to fade out. Then I got some with laser etched keycaps, which are very nice. You can find sublimated caps, last year were lots of them on eBay. I have now 6 of them, but didn't use them in the last year, after I switched to Cherry and model f. I think that lubrication does increase the quality of typing, I might do it to see how it feels.

Where to get the keycaps, any tips, search terms, models?
These guys have hundreds of G84 parts, just check their items for sale: http://www.ebay.com/itm/20-CHERRY-G84-4137TAAIT-KEYBOARDS-/281064559680?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item4170c0d440.

My friend in the states hasn't send me my keyboard yet, huhuhuhuhuhuuuuuuu  :(

well I got mine in. I must say, I really like the feel of these switches. Makes me more interested in getting my hands on a Topre short throw. Although the lack of a Windows key is really a PITA on Windows 8 :( And totally right about the lube. These things feel dry as hell.

Ctrl + Esc = Window Key in windows 7, I'm not sure if the shortcut is still the same in windows 8 but should give it a shot  :)

Ctrl+Esc != windows key.  It only opens the start menu.

Some full size keyboards with ML switches:

Comming from reds and browns, the G84 is to heavy.

btw Hyde, I think the Artisan Zero mousepad is very good and you should try it out.

Just got this in the mail.

I tried to like this board, but I don't think I can use it on a daily basis. The switch itself was not too shabby, but I can't get used to the short throw after using Blue/Brown/Buckling Spring.

I'm using mine at work.  It looks nice and doesn't take up a lot of room.

Lol damn it I was using brown and red before. Though I could use quiet alps from matias which is heavier so I think I might be ok.

Haha yeah I was debating to whether get artisan zero next or puretrak stealth after.  Though I have a feeling I will eventually have to try both  :D

The actuation force is the same with MX brown and ML.  I think both are 45 cN.
