Wow those legends look great, but I agree the inconsistent remelting really throws me off.

I agree with you. Looks kind of half-assed. Hopefully that can get worked out
its not half-assed at all, and i was not pointing the finger at SP yesterday night. to be clear, this is a side effect of the process. it's _extremely_ difficult to do this without some remelting, but we're going to burn some midnight oil and work together to minimize it.

sorry to all parties, i've been very cranky lately.

I said it was a bit distracting ;)

The main point of this thread is the Cherry legends, not the polycarbs.  They are an added bonus.

The Cherry legends are fantastic!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. Remelting only happens with white-on-orange as far as i can see?
Well, i'd sure take the set in only orange-on-white aswell.

Looking at my Vegas dice set, and the geekhack blue polycarb keys it can happen on those color combinations too.

Not sure if anyone else noticed, or cared in particular, as it doesn't even really bother me, but the line through the Q on Nate's set seems a bit wider than the one on the Cherry set. Not sure if we're going for 100% identical, but yeah, just my $.02 :)

I like the idea of orange modifiers but like others, I don't like how inconsistent the remelting is on the polycarbs.  I'd even buy just white on orange doubleshots.  Is there any chance we can get the \| and `~ keys in both colors?  I know some prefer just modifiers but I just like symmetry.

I assume its just the remelting process that they have been talking about.

I think he means the legends, like look at the numpad(the legends have lines going through them).  But like I said, I think its just h ow the remelting stuff works with polycarbs.

That is the support structure for the legend (the 1st shot).  There are several variations (some / some \ some other), with different properties for supporting legends with different demands.  It is normally hidden by the keycap (the 2nd shot) and is chosen according to the needs of the particular legend.  With clear 1st shots, and especially clear 2nd shots, this support structure becomes a visible part of the keycaps' aesthetic.  One of the things we are working on is to see if we can make them all uniform.

Fixed legends have been submitted to SP.

We are leaning away from the orange poly second shot mods because with the inconsistent meshes the set looks ugly.

Cheers for the news! It's a shame about the orange polys but it was worth investigating I guess.

I still think a darker color for the mods' second shot would be better. Something like a dark grey/charcoal, with the orange poly legends.

I like the poly alphas and I think a complete base set with matching mods is the way to go.
then it could have a few choices for the mod kits.

1. mashby's orangesicle
2. orange poly (if it gets fixed)
3. orangesicle with white poly or clear poly legends?

I feel like if we're doing poly at all then ask the keys should have it. Otherwise it'll look funny on a backlit keyboard.

This is strangely attractive :)

And another example that looks best on a white case.

I'm back at work this morning and found the corrected keys waiting for me.  The 3/# and 8/* look much, much better.  I'll take comparison pics tonight to confirm, but I think we have a complete set (104 key ANSI) of acceptable legends.

Also, the redone modifiers are white-on-orange, like the mockup mashby posted, and look delicious. ^^

Almost as good as if they were yellow, although the white legends wouldn't show up as well.

These mods look nice and orange to me. This would be the color I would picture if someone said something was orange to me.

These mods look do look orange but they are more shifted to red.

Nice.  Dramatically better on the # and *.  I really loved the transparent mods, but this just looks so much cleaner.  Glad you kept the poly shot in the alphas.  I assume you are still using the same colors as the geekhack backspace and hazard cone?
wut. i'd buy a ****ty IBM board for that green V2

Looks good. I'm guessing the keys will look more orange in person. They look pretty red from those photos.

Those pics were taken with my phone in bad lighting with a flash, so yeah.  Colors not necessarily representative.  The keys are perfectly Halloween orange in real life.

Though remember guys this is just the proof set.  What the first GB goes with remains to be seen.

Hope there'll be a chance for a full polycarb on white set. I think the orange on the mods is too strong (it's a nice color by itself) but due to the transparency the poly-orange looks more towards yellow thus the mods don't really match.
Nice results either way though.
