Actually, I was thinking the opposite:  that the bottom might be falling out of the vintage Cherry keyboard market.  It seems like the heady days of $2,500 for a NIB G80-5000 might be over, due to the availability of new Cherry-profile OEM-style double shots and dye subs.  But who knows?

As for vintage Alps keyboards, I never understood the appeal, so I am not fit to comment knowledgeably.

I think the whole point of buying vintage keyboards on eBay is to find one for cheap. Having said that, I still think someone will end up buying most of these keyboards.

Some of these have been listed and relisted for months now. Looks like they are finally accepting prices are too high and going for some auctions instead of only BIN.

Bottom falling out should mean lower prices unless they're trying to sell to suckers or know something we don't about the future of new Cherry/GMK/BSP caps......

This is why I posted it, real auctions, with the exception of the Siig (which is laughable at $120) of course.

I look at it as the used Cherry market will normalize. Like just this week there was some 105 key G80-3000HSMGB that sold for half the price (about where they should be) they were just a few months ago. Of course there will still be some rare keyboard models that will remain in the upper tiers for collectors that want the whole thing, not just keycaps.

Black Desko is pad print OEM profile. Though for those cons, they have the pro of being MX unlike the MY BMOL with nice Cherry doubleshot/dyesub keycaps... quite a trade off :)) Cheapo MY7000 solves the problem with the keycaps though.

I've always wanted one of those (I think it's the elbowglue (not ricercar) SPOS, but I get them confused) and I'd gladly put some good POM keycaps on it (I keep my cheap doubleshots on my work keyboard, so I won't mind if they're broken or lost. I put keycaps made from "good" materials on keyboards I actually use)

maybe I'll make an offer.

Just like stamp-collectors will pay daft prices for a stamp they will never put on a letter ..
(remember those .. letters ?)

Really, if you think the point is to harvest keycaps from a NIB G80-5000 ....

Haha, it's you :D

'daft' is just my opinion - note I didn't say 'wrong' or 'bad for the community' or any of that bollocks - but the rate that prices have increased these last couple of years does have the feel of a bubble, no?

Yes I agree the bubble is breaking on Cherry stuff. Now that we have ability to make new production with the same sources that made the originals, when new is available it will make the older used things loose value. I am thankful I never allowed myself to go in with crazy high price stuff, always used patience and find something for $40 not $400. All the common G80/G81 models with average colorways and easy to find language layouts must loose the value and be sane prices.
There will still be higher priced sought after G80 like 5000 (still have no idea why this has not been produced again), and some of the more esoteric pre 1000 era models that are truly interesting for collector point of view.
Of course I can't blame those trying to cash out and get as much of their money back as they can before it bursts. I have been tempted to do so myself to be honest.

No, I didn't mean keycap stuffs and I said so! I meant the 'higher priced sought after' NIB keyboards... sure, the long term average prices will rise anyway, but prices over the last year or two have risen so quickly that a corrrection back to the trend line is quite feasible.

Tons of Northgate, Cherry, Siig, etc
http://www.ebay.com/sch/didjamatic/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

WOW!
That is one sick selection of boards. The Northgates are fantastic and I think the $120 for the SIIG with blue Monterey's is actually good. A truly great switch on a good board. I didn't see any BIN prices that were objectionable. Who knows what some of the other items will climb to though, but many are indeed good items.
Thanks for the link Jwaz, I'm shooting some PMs to peeps I know who would be interested.

Oh, well sure with vintage NIB the prices will keep going up. Every so often a person will buy a NIB... and actually use it! Then it is a used keyboard, and has lost perhaps a great deal of it's perceived value. As time passes more and more will become used, until there is only one left and it will be ten million dollars or something. Or, by then there is no one left to care about it or know it was once considered valuable and will be sold for $1 at a garage sale :))

Better served by an MX-11800, or perhaps a G80-8100. The later has more real estate for a "collection" of sorts. And the former is more fun.

This went way off topic though so I will back out of this thread now.

Good luck to those who try to snag one of the boards in Didj's auctions, lots of good boards there.

Hello keyboard friends.

If anyone from GH wins any of the auctions, PM me afterwards and I'll toss something extra in.  Not sure what but I'll throw something in, extra custom caps, PS2 to USB adapter, a copy of RAD on VHS, maybe some tannerite to use on the keytronics you bought hoping they were mechanical.

Something that makes me insane, and it happens a lot, is when an ebay seller creates multiple auctions of very similar products that all end at the same time.

Not all of us have unlimited funds, so, just for example, if there are 3 Northgates that might go for $100, ending within seconds or minutes of each other, (at a time when we cannot be certain of sitting directly in front of the computer with a solid internet connection) and if a buyer had $100 to spend, he could only bid the $100 on one of the 3.

If there was, say, at least an hour between them, then he could juggle his bids and perhaps get the 2nd or 3rd one at his max price even if he missed the first one.

Realistically, if he was constrained by the $100 limit, he could only bid $33 on each, or $50 on the first and $25 on the next 2, etc.

In any case, both buyer and seller are punished in this scenario, because the seller is short-circuiting the process that might yield him the best return, and the secondary buyers are simply flapping in the winds of chance.

Likely, some buyer or buyers will get a bargain in some of the latter sales, as the herd of potential buyers is thinned out, so there is an upside for somebody.

I strongly recommend putting at least an hour, and, preferably, a day between end times of similar items, for the best and most consistent returns.

Just my opinion, of course.

Good point Foghat, I've never thought of it that way.  If you bid $250 on multiple keyboards and have to bid early because you won't be there when they tick down you have the risk of getting too many.

I typically list a bunch at once because many buyers want to do multiple and combine shipping.  I'm also so freaking busy that it's hard to find time to ship things out so I try to do many at once, but I'll consider spacing them out somewhat next time.

Yea, if I wanted to spend quite a bit of time glued to my computer late on a Sunday night.

When you list on ebay, there is an option (I think it costs about a dime per listing) to set a start time that is not "immediately"

Most sellers offer combined shipping on any items bought within 72 hours of each other, as long as there is communication from the buyer requesting the wait and/or the seller sending a revised invoice.

How much did that gold label Focus with blue alps go for?

I think it was near $120 or something, I was watching them too hah. Even the white Alps boards ended around $50-$60 plus shipping.

I recall only one blue alps board last night, and believe it went for $80.
Unless there was another blue alps I missed.

Guys, you can view a seller's recently sold items. Here's the link:
http://www.ebay.com/csc/didjamatic/m.html?LH_Complete=1&_ipg=50&_since=7&_sop=15&_rdc=1

For future refrence, I just took the link in the OP, clicked "advanced" and then selected it for listings completed in the last 7 days. 15 works too.

I don't know which board had what Alps, though. That's up to you guys.

Speaking of which, I don't know who got this:

But that looks like a great price to me (even with shipping). This is the northgate I wanted, but I forgot to bid.
