Geekhack Records !
« on: Thu, 09 May 2013, 19:29:56 »
Hi All,

As the title suggests.

What I envisage to be here include are things like, but not limited to:
-Highest price paid (for various items, KB, CC, brobot)
-Fastest sales (very hard to track , assuming sale not set up prior to post thread etc)
-Most keyboards owned (can split up into sections, most 60%, most customs, most etc...)
-Most charitable (some names come into mind here)
-open to suggestions

What I don't see including are things like, most posts in a span of time, world records, and non-GH forum related things.
As for anonymity I can update according to requirements of the buyer/seller/owner.

Personal records where applicable, non commerical hehe.
Until I get better records, I'll post how is currently leading in certain sections until further notice.

Unsure, I was looking though GB's yesterday and came across the Retro being $36k, going by quick calcs is more than Klaxon but I wasn't here for R4, so please update if you can.

If its more than 5 I'll take it. =P

Otherwise you made me think of a good category, members with the most horribly decorated boards (not a personal dig at anyone just see how bad you could make your board look with the caps you have lol) might be a waste of time though

A shrink would have a field day here.

I could not even remotely touch any record, yet I sometimes feel embarrassed by "keeper collection" and "parts collection"
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

Included many of the suggestions in various categories.

I'll wait til lunch so I can look through GH for more info.

Didn't bother putting buyers for the highest paid sections although are easy to find.

I just wanted to add that I highly doubt I'm the most charitable in the community. I'm not even sure I've given most stuff away in a public way. So I don't feel comfortable being on that list with so many other people being more than generous just not saying much about it ;). (The most charitable part of the list I mean)

$500 Mr Friday
Get the fact straight, please. The winning bid in the auction was $380. The clack was donated by CC himself and he told the seller he had to donate a certain amount to GH. Since I, the one who bid $380, I wanted the full amount to go to the seller so I donated another $120 so the seller conld use it for the donstion to GH and use the full $380 for his personal crisis. Of course my old nemesis Dan twisted the story to make me look as bad as possible, no surprise to most, and then a few of his "followers" propogated the story, like this. Bottom line ... the winning bid FOR THE CLACK, was $380. If you need validation, ask the seller. Also, because he is sincere, genuine and generous CC threw in another clack with the mx Mr. Friday when he shipped it to me. The freebie was the CC autographed (CC - #2) topre Mr. Friday. Ended up being a pretty good deal, I think. But more important was the reason for the auction and the money raised.

Paying ultra-premium prices for keycaps is collecting, like stamps. I don't see how they enhance the physical experience.

Being more practical, I am curious about things like those $1K+ M-15s, etc, are they worth it?

And, for example, the loving care and work that go into hand-crafting your own "perfect" keyboard - that all-metal Filco comes to mind.

How about records for hours of hands-on workbench time invested into a keyboard, rather than crass numbers and dollars? And was it for aesthetics (those stunning brass steampunk marvels) or function (careful tweaking/lubing/adjusting each of 100+ switches)?

I know that these investments are much harder to nail down, but seem more interesting to me than bragging about your sagging storage shelves.

Don't be mad, the total spent from your side was $500. That is a fact. So I am not sure why you are trying to get defensive.

The point of the thread was 'most spent'. And the total spent was $500. Does that need more explanation?

No defensiveness meant what so ever, seriously. The fact is, there was an auction and the winning bid was $380. If I were making a list I would want it accurate. I also donated to GH. Do we add that in? If behind the scene I added an extra $1000 for the seller' emergency, is it now a $1500 clack? Just seems a little weird to me, thats all.

Arguments aside, for clarity for that item

I've updated it to relflect the charitable donation made by jcrouse included in this final bid.

Take it how you will, if someone else spends anything close to $380 I'll put them there also.

I was joking about these by the way:
Most sets of used Cherry DS: Inlikeflynn (150)
Most MY boards: Inlikeflynn (172)

that is mostly all just from the MY7000 GB and soon none of it will exist. so those don't need to be up there

Biggest keycap pulling party ever, Flynn?

more like 1st and last keycap pulling party ever

I feel like HaaTa certainly has to have at least SOME record here. Definitely the most unique keyboard collection.
