PD-KB02 "Happy Hacking Keyboard 2"
« on: Fri, 07 June 2013, 06:55:23 »
So there I was, on Amazon.com looking to buy a HHKB 2 Pro (KB-400W). A third-party seller was selling theirs much cheaper than normal, and I bought it.

... When I received it, it 's a PD-KB02, the original HHKB 2. I plug it into my trusty PS/2 to USB adapter (the keyboard was brand new in box, just missing a longer PS/2 cable). Using it on OS X, I realized, no matter what the key switch position (0, 1, 2, or 3) I tried to set on the back of the keyboard, the Command buttons were not having it. Do you think I'd have to use a PS/2 to ADB converter cable (by PFU) before converting ADB to USB (with like a Griffin iMate)?

Also, I was checking out what type of keys the HHKB2 has, but I can't find any specifics. Searched all over Google and geekhack.org and was not able to find anything definite... However, the PFU site says this: http://www.pfu.fujitsu.com/hhkeyboard/eol.html

"Membrane switch (3.8mm stroke, soft snap), 19.05mm pitch"

"Cylindrical, curved sculptures, pressing pressure 50g"

(That's through Google Translate)

I'm thinking rubber domes? It is a very nice rubber dome keyboard. The fact that it isn't working with "Command" is a turn-off though. Any recommendations on what I can do?

This is mode configuration guide.  You'll need to replug cable to make a change after switch mode.

I didn't know that PD-KB02 has no Windows key(Cmd on Mac) on PS/2 mode, it has Muhenkan(key for Japanese keyboard) instead. You need to remap that key to Cmd on OSX.

Or you can use iMate  with ADB cable for HHK. ADB mode has Cmd key.

Yes, it is a nice Fujitsu rubber dome. I know some people prefer this than Topre in Japan.

Thank you so much hasu! I will take a look and remap Muhenkan to Cmd. I figure this is trying to be a PC keyboard, even when plugging into OS X since it's purely PS/2... time to buy a PS/2 extension cable or a USB extension cable. :D
