STEAM SUMMER SALE 2013
« on: Wed, 10 July 2013, 20:14:46 »
So, according to an email posted on reddit, the sale starts tomorrow.

It's that wonderful time of the year to add games to your library that you probably won't play in awhile but they were too cheap to pass up on.
No, he’s not around. How that sound to ya? Jot it down.

You mean like Free Money?

But Seriously. This is basically how I am. I'm sure I'll convince myself one of the deals is good enough to buy.

I've never seen the steam summer sale so I am wondering how long does the sale usually last? And do the games go real cheap or normal sales cheap? Thanks :)

Deals normally last for a day I think.

going 75% off if you call that "real" cheap :)

it's around a week or two. they have flash sales (the really really good sales) every 6 or so hours.

the key to the steam sales is to buy towards the end of the sale.

I picked up Skyrim with all the bells and whistles on the first day-- 36 dollars, but I''d been promising myself for years "Once they do an all-inclusive version and once it goes on sale..."

Tonight I obtained Borderlands 2 and FTL.

This is more than I've spent on games in years.

Picked up To The Moon, BioShock Infinite and Skyrim DLC so far. Still 20+ games on my wishlist, but I'll keep an eye out for better deals on some of them before I buy, since it's happened before during sales that I've bought games at 33-50% off only to find them at 75% off the next day.

Damnit, I've just gone and bought Tomb Raider.

Now all I need is a machine to play it on ...
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

So Thursday Dark Souls went on sale for $7.50 and I was seriously contemplating buying it. This action however would mean me spending a quarter of my weekly food budget, which I was hard pressed to do. For reference, I live off scraps during the Summer as an unpaid intern and no big grants to spend as during the school year. Anywho, I went on the Dark Souls sub on Reddit asking a few questions to try and convince myself to buy it, and some amazing Redditor stepped forward and gifted me the game through Steam. Welp, turns out this Redditor was none other than bisl of GH and we both had a laugh. Small world, full of awesome people.

I've only bought Don't Starve.

I don't really get the steam sale mentality of buy everything because it's cheap and I might play it. I only buy games I want and I know I will play. I usually stick with a single game for a long time as well.
