umm, you are the problem, not the solution.

We were fine before you got here.

You guys are the ones nitpicking at me.....instead of bashing the other people who are off topic you all gang up on me and nitpick the smallest detail that makes it not 100% on topic.

could you please do me a favor and run head first into a wall?
your head won't hurt, trust me.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Pacifist, as I'd already mentioned, there's a good time to pursue your battle and then there's a good time to throw in a towel and get a nice cold drink, and do something else.  This is one of the latter times.

I don't know. If you're such a genius why don't you tell me? I don't see anything wrong. I was on topic, others were not, but I was called out for not being on topic. If the community is so good and fine before I was here, then how come the people who were here before me nitpick on my post that is on topic rather than on other people's posts who were blatantly off topic?

Pacifist, as I'd already mentioned, there's a good time to pursue your battle and then there's a good time to throw in a towel and get a nice cold drink, and do something else.  This is one of the latter times.

I will pursue this battle because I was on topic and did not violate any rules but was nitpicked while others weren't and weren't criticized at all. I will also pursue this battle because other people have called me out on nothing wrong and insulted me. This has gone beyond personal.

Quitting and throwing in the towel now only justifies nitpicking on something that shouldn't be nitpicked. If I don't show that these nitpickers are wrong, they will only continue to nitpick and nitpick perpetually. This just leads to the community becoming more disintegrated, which as a member of the community I have a responsibility to stop.

if this is directed towards me, I was getting along at first. Then demilk and spam nitpicked my posts saying they were off topic when they weren't.

I will "impale my enemies" because they are wrong  and will only stop when they apologize and tell everybody that they were wrong for accusing me of a crime I did not commit.

Something I get from one of the guys when I mention my old PC hardware won't run modern games is "If you hadn't spent all your money on keyboard stuff you could buy a reasonable gaming machine".
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Objectively speaking, his post was not out of line with other posts here.  It's a different manner entirely that what he posts seems to elicit a lot of negative response, justifiably or not.  In this particular thread, I believe there was no good reason why he should have gotten so much flame for some pretty innocent posts.  If everyone could drop insulting each other (specifically, if everyone would please stop insulting Pacifist here), it'd be very much appreciated.  This was meant to be a lighthearted thread about our silly keyboard addiction.

every time there are mechanical keyboards reviews on my local technology forum, there are bunch of people like this:

- look nothing special than my Mitsumi membrane, you must be idiot or crazy to buy that
- look fugly compared to my Razer/Logitech/STRIKE7/...
- this must be for truly gamer...

For the record:
Topic: Things (average) People Say About Your Keyboard(s)

Pretty simple really.

Anyhoo, I've found the entire spectrum from "Whaaaaa?" to "Oh, that's interesting/different, I didn't know." to "That's neat, what else can it do?" to a pretty flat "Whatever."

The surprising thing is the responses from people that I would have expected the exact OPPOSITE response from, in both directions, over enthusiasm/under enthusiasm. That's been worth the price of admission alone.

Glad to see this thread was brought back from the dead. I always get comments on my clack on my HHKB, people asking, "What does this key do?" and such. All my friends think my EDox is sick, and it's gotten to the point that whenever I talk to my old boss, he asks what keyboard I'm using. I was that guy at the office that would have a different keyboard every week lol.

I've brought up an ErgoDox in my household and showed some particularly nice photos and was called "crazy" :)  Still, I'm used to that, and my friends already thought I was crazy to have a super heavy keyboard made of metal.  "Why would anyone even make that?!!!..."

Something I get from one of the guys when I mention my old PC hardware won't run modern games is "If you hadn't spent all your money on keyboard stuff you could buy a reasonable gaming machine".

Oh man!! I get that too!
I get roughed up for still using a Core 2 Quad! Ha ha!

I just upgraded my PC at home to Core 2 DUO ~3 months ago. Coming from a Pentium 4 :D
Lol! This is classic. I bet you own an expensive mech!

Yes. I have no shame :x

This random person I work with was like "Poker?" And I was like "YEAHHHHH" and that's how I found out he wasnt "average".

Man that's nice, I'm 99% sure I'm the only person in my 1500 employee office that has a mechanical keyboard.
Gotta collect them all

Upon telling people I just spent $650 on a keyboard, most were suprised, some were not, and one said that he could build a computer for that price. Another is now highly interested in mechs

"Where are the arrow keys?"
"I don't like that type of keyboard, you have to press the keys too far."
"How much was it? Oh..... that much, really? Well, it's nice...."
"Which switches does it have? Browns? Great, I have a G710+" <-- from a guy temporarily assigned to the same project  :)

At least in my office the Dell Quietkey is very common (these are surprisingly good for rubber domes and have some nice design features such as the curved bottom edge on the thumb keys which I find really helps comfort when typing), so people don't have to suffer with really bad rubber dome boards, but it would be nice to see a little more enthusiasm for mechanicals. At least some of them who aren't interested in my Pure are interested in my ergo board.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

I get that ALL THE TIME
