This code wasn't supposed to be released to the public yet and is part of a bigger effort between us and the GH admins.  Ming should have an announcement regarding this soon.

I have a small announcement right now.

There will be a contest.

It will be awesome.

CM has cooperated with us to come up with this awesome code to basically give away the top cases. HOWEVER, in order to fulfill your end of the bargain, we're going to need you guys to apply the full limits of your creativity and geekhackery to these cases. Show us how awesome the community is at making cool stuff!

Since we actually came up with this contest about 30 hours ago, most of the terms are a complete unknown. Please give us some time to work out the details and then we will make a full announcement with rules, prizes, etc. The basic idea though, is that CM storm HAS agreed to give GH MEMBERS topcases at cost in exchange for some awesome modifications/painting/hand-painted hand-shaped caps/WHATEVER AWESOME THING YOU WANT TO DO TO THEM!

So 1) HOORAY! ANNIVERSARY CONTEST 2) please, hold your horses for a minute. or several days. or a week. whichever comes last ;)

to all the brilliant friends who have left us, and all the students who climb on their shoulders.

No, there will always be a limitation of stock because we don't want someone buying out all the inventory for cheap as this will be a special promotion.

We'd like to be able to keep the goods for Canada but the shipping costs and customs fees make it very difficult.  We'd love to get this stuff globally, if we could... but there are too many logistical issues that come into play as well.

I thought it was awesome that I was going to take a dremel to a QFR top and cutout the spot on the right side so I can use ALL the keys. And of course it will be painted/refinished in some way.

well, just cutting space for more keys out of a top case is most definitely not awesome.

here, let me give a primer on awesome. the following is a short informational video on how to become awesome: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096928/

It is available for instant viewing on both amazon and (I believe) Netflix. It may also be available on Hulu.

Selected segments for viewing:

repainting refinishing is quite awesome by the way. BUT you need to shout "BOGUS" and "RADICAL" while you're doing it

i've heard that paint flakes unless you do anyway, so it's just part of the proper process.

hmm contest eh?

too bad I'm not an artistic person. I'll probably just end up spray painting it some random color, maybe some cool sanding pattern too I dunno. Would love to make a top that has the wood looking style, but dunno how.

conveniently my QFR is going to become a Dragon Quest themed board.
just waiting on my blue key caps, and if i can get a free(or nearly free) QFR top panel, i can be less terrified of f'ing up the dark blue paint job.
i'm going to mod the F-keys to have mounts for the DQ slimes and staircase from the Japan-only DQX Wii keyboard(that looks amazing, impossible to type on)
the hardest part will be figuring out how to paint a slime face on the space bar properly..

hyped for this contest! can't wait to see what everybody does!
