This is most likely the ugliest keyboard I have ever seen.  Even worse than some of the worst unicorn vomit boards.

You must have never seen the Azio Mech4 or Mech5.

Nope not yet but I will look it up when I get home from work.

I have seen this keyboard in person. Unfortunately, I have seen a very limited number of decent keyboards, so can't really comment on the quality, so please take my words with a pinch of salt.

As some people have mentioned, it isn't really for GH people. It's more "gamer" oriented. I personally liked the feel/finish of the keyboard and it seemed decent quality to me. The shape might not appeal to a lot of people here, but it does look a bit better without the plastic handles or whatever they are. That plastic just makes it totally hideous IMO. Again, since it's geared more towards the normal crowd, the design isn't what we normally see here.

An interesting feature of the Mech that I was told was, it has an audio DAC inside. I'm a bit skeptical about this since the specifications on CM's page don't mention that. But it certainly would be interesting if it actually has a DAC. USB 3.0 is a plus point. The one I saw had white LED backlighting, not sure if it comes in other colors or if it is customizable. The backlighting looked nice to me.

So to go along with this keyboard, CM Storm also released a mouse and headset as part of their Aluminum Series:

http://www.cmstorm.com/en/products/keyboards/MECH/

http://www.cmstorm.com/en/products/peripherals/Reaper/

http://www.cmstorm.com/en/products/audio/Pulse-R/

Yeah they're apparently coming up with complete kits for gamers. Keyboard+mouse+headset. There's gonna be some all white kit too I think.
I gotta check some of the promotional material I have and will post more.

Alu Case Everywhere  :p

I'm just sad major manufacturers take "aluminum case" to mean "a sheet of thin aluminum covering the product" instead of solid thick aluminum. It would be amazing if a mainstream manufacturer had a thick cnc aluminum case.

Nobody would buy it. Companies have to make a profit, as well as numbers. If they spent tons of time and money to have cases CNC milled, and they didn't sell, what then?

Vortex tried to provide aluminum cases with some sort of profit, and look at what happened with them. It just doesn't work for the average consumer. Does anyone take into account that when we buy Korean Kustom keyboards, we're almost essentially getting them at cost. What if someone tacked on more money for their profit? Would you want to buy it?

I think the handle is used for the 1 or 2 zombies you'll whack with it and then it breaks and you get eaten. Of course the person next to you using the Model F AT will rule the world with his godly zombie killing keyboard.

Even if they had this in the tenkeyless format I still wouldn't get it. I hate having a keyboard that can't fit a complete set of keycaps.

Vortex had a low quality aftermarket case. And kmac deals in very low volume. A stock board, produced in extreme volumes, could have significantly lower cost than a kmac. I'm not talking aircraft grade aluminum either, just halfway decent solid metal.

Red, brown, and... green switches?  I can see some green switch fans buying it just for that.

:blank: in the specifications column, they said it only have blue brown red

Ahhh.  On the main page it shows green.  At first I thought that an interesting third switch choice, particularly over black.

this is a backlit board. that should scream "GAMER" (possibly casual) to you. many gamers prefer backlit boards with lit legends because it makes their lives a bit easier, and they're not that picky about key legending, quality or feel.

CM designed the new XT and stealth for you. as my review of the XT more or less states, the XT is a brilliant little design that has everything that the average geekhacker wants, and nothing they don't want. frankly, i don't think it's an exaggeration to say that you have carter (and his design team of course) to thank for this; both the proper market segmentation and the extraordinarily appropriate designs of the XT and stealth for the geekhack market. if you're not all that interested in a huge backlit board, well, no big surprise. leave those boards to the people who do want them (and yes, they definitely exist).

I can think of a few things that I don't exactly like about the Quickfire XT, but they are small things that won't matter too much. The thing I dislike the most about the Quickfire XT is the USB port, I would personally prefer a micro-B or mini-B instead of a regular sized USB A port.

I agree, props to CM for catering both the markets, unlike many other "gaming" keyboard manufacturers

Would you prefer the Mini/Micro B for size reasons, or because an A port on a client device is non-standard?

I can't tell, but it looks like they may have wised up and used a full sized USB B port on this keyboard.  Hopefully they'll change the port to a full sized B for the XTS.

Wearable computing ;)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I can see it now, they hired a new lead designer who has spent years designing keyboards, only to realize they weren't computer keyboards.

Not enough LED screens for showing important ingame intel.

Damn, I miss those screens!

I call bull**** on the fact that ANYONE has ever actually used those screens... It makes zero sense to look down and away from the main screen.

I found the LCD on my old G15 to be incredibly useful when gaming, so there. Now that I'm back to one monitor I really miss having one, although I never used it for realtime game info. It was, however, heaps useful to check the song playing, I could use Miranda with the LCD to chat with people while in-game, and idk what games you've played, but if you have zero downtime while playing FPS you're either cheating or playing something ****ty like FFA/DM.

This is most likely the ugliest keyboard I have ever seen.  Even worse than some of the worst unicorn vomit boards.

You must have never seen the Azio Mech4 or Mech5.

Mech4 is defenetly the most horrible board i've ever seen. Mech5 isn't so bad.

Also my friend purchased the new CM Mech we're talking about in this thread, and he was pretty surprised to see it's red backlite. Also he said it's worth it.
