I just need to sort out some paypal things and then I'll be (almost) ready to buy a GON.

His pcbs are pretty forgiving, just take your time and you'll be fine. :D A gon 38gt was my first build. (I ended up putting way to many leds on it though)

Zeal, what is that red underneath the spacebar?

It's the 38gt pcb, the leds are making it glow.

That's good to hear. I've got access to good soldering equipment at school, but I'm cursed so that every 3rd solder joint I do is awful. Maybe I'm just going too fast.

Beautiful ! One thing I'm wondering, how is it possible for the GON case to be so thin? Is the PCB right against the bottom plate of the case?

Thank you. Actually the PCB is just like other boards where it is attached to the top plate of the case. You can see the PCB causing a shadow within the glowing part of the keyboard in the pictures.  ;)

I could not wait any longer, i still need to solder in the resistors and in switch LEDs but i wanted to use this keyboard NOW

i love it, the NerdyGUI is fantastic and i love the feel of these stock clears on here, its actually makes a unique "thock" sound, not the same as topre but its really unique and ping free

though i can complain that the rear LEDs shine through the green Nerd60 PCB. almost forcing my hand to do white in switch LEDs.

layout is loyal to the HHKBpro2 layout except for the \|, Backspace, ESC, and ~ for better keycap compatibility but i didn't put in a stabilizer for the backspace so if i wanted to go 100% to HHKB layout i could just desolder one switch and solder in two in place, which is probably what i am going to do because i keep typing in \ when i want to backspace, which is odd because i don't do that on any other keyboard, my mind actually sees this as a real HHKB

bottom layout is 1.25, 1.5, 7, 1.5. 1.25. problem?

damn-it, as im typing im noticing my 1 key is skipping keys and is totally not working somewhat., i probably have a bad joint but that sucks, now i have to take it apart again.....

oh well here we gooooooo

in switch LEDs will either be Orange or White and i can use color changers, some switches have sip sockets like WASD as well

is it bad i want to use this keyboard instead of my ErgoDox just because it is totally cool. :O

Oh... Great Work! Glod! ;)

I think NerD has the most powerful H/W Macro in the world. Make good use of them too,. ;)
Even though I have made/assembled/tuned HUNDREDs of keyboards for others, I myself don't have a full-tuned Custom Keyboard now.

Wow that is bright! Looks amazing though.

I'm not sure if it supports 1.25 + 1.5 + 7. Check the switch positioning on the pcb.
I think it does 1.5 + 1 + 7 on both sides.

If it is skipping keys or a key stop registering make sure you install all the diodes, I forgot one and a key stopped working after a remap.
The one I forgot was just beneath the 2X backspace, there should be a diode in horizontal direction. Between ]} and ANSI \

Thankfully there is a brightness setting in nerdy ui for the leds, i was just taking a photo of the side ones on full blast.

no 1.25, 1.5,  7, 1.5., 1.25 works and in my opinion looks better due to the light bleed. i said "problem" like i was trolling some diehards. when i posted this thing last night i had everything soldered in

the skipping keys was a bad solder joint on the switch, its fixed and tested now

What color LED are you using under the WASD and Caps Lock?

i put sip sockets in esc,q,w,e,a,s,d,f,and space and currently there is orange LEDs in there.

Whoa, Glod that is an awesome board, much brighter than my NS 38GT. Did not know the SMD LED + Brightness control made such a huge difference. Looks amazing!

What color LEDs are those? White or teal?

They are white, but they are reflecting off the inside of the sky-blue casing so that may have some effect on the result color. LED's are done through the cherry holes, so they aren't right up against the edge like the SMD's are, so that might also increase the effect of the case color.

is that an icemat in the background? O_O

It's a Maxtill G2-PAD :] I may write a review of it on Geekhack, I really enjoy it a lot so far.

Oh, that's right. I was confused because of the perceived thinness of the case. How thin is it actually, by the way?
I'm afraid I don't know the actual dimensions of it, sorry. It must be posted somewhere, but I couldn't find them on the website.

I have a full metal ergodox and the GON feels more solid than that to type on than that

white i think wins, brings out the color of case and i can use color changers i bought from massdrop

You can never go wrong with white LEDs. Color changers lessen the brightness, which makes the backlight uneven, so using sockets is a better choice if changing LED colors is important, but they're a bigger hassle. Your GON looks perfect as-is, though!
