Blocking other members?
« on: Tue, 10 September 2013, 23:13:41 »
Do you block anyone here on GH? Why?

Have you ever found out you were blocked by another member? How did that make you feel?

Have you ever wanted to say "Hey _________, thanks for blocking me. Eat a bag of cement."

or consequently

"Hey _________, I was going to send you something cool because I think you are cool, but I see you've blocked me for no reason so I hope you choke on your dinner tonight. Enjoy not getting this present."

anything like that ever happen to you?

No and no and, if it did happen, then I have more pressing matters to concern myself than somone's else's opinion, which I believe they are entitled to express as they wish.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I don't have anyone blocked/ignored, but I do have a list of people who I won't buy/sell/trade with.

Like rowdy said, everyone has an opinion that should at least be heard even if I think it's the dumbest thing I've read all day.

Yes, I use the ignore feature but not really to ignore anyone. It's more just to prepare myself to read what would have otherwise annoyed me if I wasn't alerted beforehand that I was reading something written by those users.

Agreed, also it makes you exceptionally narrow minded if your only prepaired to deal with people who share your own opinions.

krogenar (makes scrolling pages much easier)
mw (makes looking at the pages much easier, as i don't want to switch off signatures)
sth (he is posting bullsh!t all the time anyway)
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

I block a total of three people.
Two because they don't know how to be a human being, and the third because they are insane.

I really do wonder how many (if any) at blocking me. In the other hand I don't think I would care if I found out *shrug*

I'd never block anyone even if I get aggravated by what some people posts I still read it haha.

And I'm sure I've made some blocks lists because 'some' people think I post too much but whatever, seeing the crap some people get away with posting because of 'who' they are I figure nobody really cares that much and if they do then get a life!

The thing about geekhack is that it's a keyboard forum and people just love to type on their mech keyboard, so they tend to be more vocal than usual and as such opinion clashes. Think of this and there will be less blocking and ignoring.. :)

LOL! I will now expound upon the power of brevity for seven paragraphs.
I will admit to 'ignoring' several noted socialists, and those rare people at GH who exult in their own rudeness.

I've never ignored anyone simply because i don't see much of a point in it..my friend has a massive ignore list and he says scrolling through some threads are just difficult to read

anyways, i think it's funny to see how far some people go and it's plenty of fun to laugh at them

it is kinda phreaky how much people get swallowed up by this site and how large their egos inflate...it's more sad if anything

I have only used the block/ignore list for a few people, for the same reasons noted above.

As far as who is blocking me?  No clue, don't care.

I mean honestly, how does one deal with someone in the classifieds if they have you blocked? Your only hurting yourself and potential deals by doing that without reason.

Personally I don't, nor would I, block anyone. But those people on GH who I can understand why people may want to, rarely post in the classifieds anyway. Blind blocking is just sad though. No deals for you!

I assign the letters in a person's name a value between 1 and 26 (not alphabetically, at random), multiply the first value by the second,  and add all the remaining values. If it's prime I block them.

Thought that's what everybody did.
