It bothers me that I wasted most of my semester playing video games when I could have been studying, as a result I have to repeat subjects and that sucks balls. Really messy now

This is why I never brought my consoles or any games to school. I cheated a bit my final semester, but by then I knew it was okay because it was my last few months in college.

I brought up my xbox one and computer but I knew I wouldn't be able to play much. Little did I know how many things I had to give up in order to succeed in college, I'll sacrifice it all if it means I can get that stupid piece of paper.

Had to come in to work yesterday for an hour and now I'm being told I have to do the same thing this coming Sunday. I did not sign up for this crap. Time to find a new job.

Just for one hour? I wonder why such a short time?

So backstory. I work for a non profit organization that does youth and adult sports. We have a winter youth basketball league starting up in December. I am in charge of said league and have to recruit coaches for it. I have been given a fairly unrealistic goal this year in terms of participants and coaches (25% increase from last year), but I'm doing my best to get them with $0 for advertising. I was told I had to come recruit members from the church (separate organization) to coach (very apathetic, older group that does not volunteer even for small things let alone a biweekly commitment for 4 months). I'm now being told I have to come again to recruit members from another church. I was told when I took this position that I would not have to work Sundays and I made it very clear that I would not work on Sundays. In addition, I'm salaried so of course I don't get anything for working extra and driving 55 miles round trip to come in on my day off.

Edit: I should add I'm not as upset about the driving or extra hours as I am the agreement not being upheld. I work 15+ hours of overtime a week during the summer, but I knew that when I signed up to be a summer camp/athletic director. I get upset when people don't keep their word though.

Wow, okay that makes sense.  Sorry to hear the agreement is not being upheld.  :-/

I have to be on call and sometimes go in to work on weekends regularly, but I was well aware of it from the beginning so I don't mind.  I'd hate to be in a position such as yours.  Especially since you don't receive any overtime or other such compensation...

Good attitude, wish I had that much sense at your age.  I was too good to actually fail but without the reality check I continued to coast so while I did land up with a piece of paper the grade on it is not good enough to be any use and I'm stuck doing a job I hate more by the day.

Hope you can stick to it, your adult life is much longer than your time at college so it's worth the sacrifice!

Thanks I enjoy college but it sure doesn't last forever. I'd much rather sacrifice four years of fun so I can have time to study and get good grades so in the long run I will be much better off. Computer Engineering is hard major but you get a sense of satisfaction for even passing the classes. My calculus class started with a little over 50 kids and now we're down to 12 after the 3rd exam, the late-drop deadline is over so whatever I get now will show up on my report card. It's very difficult competing against my brother who maintained a 4.0 throughout his entire college career goring in Mechanical Engineering but it helps push me onward.

My boss just laughed at my beard in a meeting in front of a bunch of people...  :-[

Trying to grow it out cuz #NoShaveNovember, but it's patchy and has bald spots and no sideburns  :(

Do I give up and shave the sides, or say **** it and keep growing it in, despite looking like a raggy druggie?

I'm surprised by how much this is bugging me...

No Shave November is to support a cause right? Cancer support and awareness, iirc. Well...think if it this way, if people are asking about your patchy beard, every one of those questions is an opportunity to further explain the cause. Getting an opportunity to explain it will do more good than just growing the beard alone.

Let them ask questions, and be proud oft those patches!

That reminds me of my high school and their fascist facial hair policy. ***** teachers on every floor would stand out in the hall and scan passing guys for even a hint of moustache (they took up this role willingly, and often gloated about their "contributions"), and if they picked you out the office would put you in the bathroom and make you shave. I remember one year the administration suspended a bunch of seniors during no shave November to make a point. Strange that the ladies were allowed to wear egregious amounts of makeup and fake lashes, etc, but we couldn't have our beards.

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. We had that too! Pissed me right off. We weren't allowed to have beards because it was "unprofessional" - yet I'm expected to learn from this raggedy unprofessional teacher with a beard?? What the ****??

I always pushed it to the limit, not because I wanted to prove a point (okay that too) but because I was a lazy ass. Who the hell wants to shave every day? We could get five detentions before getting a "Saturday Detention", and every semester I had five detentions for not shaving or not tucking in my shirt. ****ers. The only reason I didn't get Saturdays is because you had to pay $25 and of course go to detention on a Saturday (oh and my parents would have murdered me).

Didn't have any beard policies but the dude in change of our engineering board in HS was a grown ass 60 year old who didn't know how to tie a tie. Whenever we came in to present it looked like we were interviewing him, he tied it backwards once so the underside was showing on the outside. Aren't engineers supposed to pay attention to details like that?
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

Something something eat too much fatty sugar foods

The B vitamins apparently have the opposite taste of sugar/carbohydrates/alcohol and make you less desirable to bugs.

I take B-complex during the summer when I am going to be outside, and it seems to help considerably.

Great advice! Will try this out, falling back to uranium if it doesn't help  :blank:

Bothering me a lot of the people who were pretty vocal about being against fake artisans are totally fine (and even purchasing) with a keyboard clone.

I'm not against the keyboard, just find it ironic. And I think fake artisans are terrible.

There's a difference. Selling counterfeit art is always looked down upon, and is just cash-grabbing on an artist's work.

Making reproductions of long dead machines to satisfy enthusiasts is okay in my book. Plus, these are improvements in regards to firmware customization. As to quality, we've yet to see.

That too.

I see Ellipse's work as more of an homage. The reproductions are of elusive boards that Ellipse feels should be in the hands of many more people, old and new generations alike, to experience.

The only downside? I can afford only one. :(

I'm pretty sure the patent ran out too...

That too.

I see Ellipse's work as more of an homage. The reproductions are of elusive boards that Ellipse feels should be in the hands of many more people, old and new generations alike, to experience.

The only downside? I can afford only one. :(

Oh yeah, there are definitely perks to these reproductions over the original models as mentioned. I was just mentioning that they weren't original, and there's no getting past that, but I understand the differences, especially if some clones violate patents.

So what clone boards are being talked about in particular though, because the only one I can think of is the KC60, unless we're talking about boards like the Royal Kludge capacitative topre-like board or something. Unicomp? Boards that use Gaterons? I'm pretty lost on this, since I'm not really noticing any buzzing about a clone board. No shockwaves or anything in the community regarding that AFAIK.

I should also add that there are tons of keyboards that look very similar to each other, especially some of the Korean customs and some of the Chinese customs like the Red Scarf, etc. I think it's a little more of a stretch to accuse a keyboard of being a clone when the profile of a keyboard is pretty universal... Err... I mean, with artisans, there's usually a unique sculpted design, so it's much easier to say something is a rip off of another, but with keyboards...

I can only really think of the KC60 being a rip off of the GH60 and maybe in broader terms, boards that use clone switches.

Yeah I have no idea what clone board is being referenced.

And FYI Unicomp bought the tooling from IBM so that's kosher.

There's a certain 356cl look-a-like (yeah the measurements are pretty much the same).

In all honesty, it's a much needed update to the ps2 original. Better quality and what not. The only thing that bothers me is when I saw the list of orders, so many people who bandwagon on the need for authenticity of "artisans" are in the buy.

Actually, I think of ellipse's keyboards as inexact "modern reproductions" rather than "clones" or "counterfeits".

And they are clearly not being sold as anything except what they really are, with the full knowledge of all buyers.

That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.

Hooray for ambiguous statements.

If you're going to come in and make this claim you can't at least fill us in on the product in question?   isn't the first time you've done this either. Whatever. I will live in blissful ignorance I suppose.  ;)

Edit: and yes I realize I could make an assumption. But I prefer to not do that.

Good points here. The fact the buyers were informed and it was and is more of a knowing tribute to the kishies is a very important aspect to factor in. Clones are usually just passed off under the radar.

Apparently my old phone number has been reactivated and someone decided to text all of my old contacts. Not really sure how this happened. Had an iPhone 5, that was completely wiped. Don't think VZW ever had SIM cards at the time that could store contact information. I can't access my old Apple ID (presumably how contact info was obtained), don't think new person could either since it would just lock them out. Thankfully a friend told me and I think this mystery person stopped texting randomly.

Contacted Apple support, they are clueless. Maybe my carrier is next. It's not terribly bothering since I have a new phone number and now use a different Apple ID (RIP $500+ in purchases). Just took some time out of my evening is all  :p

Must be. It's curious though, since the whole point of the Jane was to be simple (plain Jane). So there aren't really many design aspects that I'd consider "unique" to either board. But I don't have either of the boards in question, so who knows.

I thought the TGR-Jane was more of a nod to the KMAC.

It might just be me, but I think many of the custom TKLs look VERY similar anyways.

I remember hearing about this when the Jane came out, never even occurred to me that it was similar to the artisan cloning issue. Not really sure how I feel about it.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

I don't necessarily think that it's an issue, he came out with the original version very simple sign much like the KMAC like Hoffman said. One of the main critiques of the design was that it did not have slits in the bottom part of the case to make it easier to pick up the keyboard. So because of the demand yuktsi designed the keyboard to the feedback he was receiving. Also if he adds the acrylic diffuser it would be a nice variation as well.

Bothering me a lot of the people who were pretty vocal about being against fake artisans are totally fine (and even purchasing) with a keyboard clone.

I'm not against the keyboard, just find it ironic. And I think fake artisans are terrible.

It's not a clone.

Now you have nothing to be bothered about. Ta-da!

Well if it's not a clone, then how does the argument about fake artisans even arrive? If the board isn't a clone, your argument ceases.

Thus, there's no reason to be mad at people who buy a keyboard and have opinions on the "authenticity of artisans."

Not that hard to follow yea?

However, you're still under the assumption it's a clone of the 356cl and that's why you're annoyed at certain people and calling them hypocrites.

Seriously, are you talking about the switches?  How Cherry MX is being "cloned" by other manufacturers?  Is that what you're so upset about?

Maybe there are other types of mechanical keyboards you could look into instead.

Data plans.

I want to listen to music at my desk while I'm at the office. I forgot my iPod at home today, and I already used my phone to stream music Friday and yesterday while working. I will go over my 2GB plan if I do it again today. My company blocks any and all on line alternatives I try to access, so I'm left sitting here listening to my coworker clear his throat all day.  :(

That's not what he was talking about. He considers the new TGR-Jane CE board as a clone to the 356cl. Like Beehatch pointed out he is making no sense by making a big deal about the keyboard and then turns it onto the people who bought the keyboard. He's trying to say they're being hypocrites if they're against fake artisans but buy the"clone" board. He then talks about how it's not the keyboard even though that's what he brought up in the first place and started this discussion.
