I'm shocked there was never a thread like this on geekhack (not from my searching anyway)

Everyone knows you have awesome keyboards, but is your desktop up to par ;)

this is my gentoo, i uploaded this photo a little bit ago to show someone what pink paludis looks like (of course the answer is awesome!)

Save the Sea Kittens!

It's Ubuntu 8.something.  I actually just use a blue gradient most of the time.

Oh yeah, that's KNewsTicker (running on Gnome) running a feed from Fark up there.  It's a very cool app because you can turn any RSS feed (or any assortment of them) into a news ticker.

Please tell me that's sarcastic. :p (Yes, I know the PETA campaign is real. Do I get to eat land fish?)

Oh, another Sea-Kitten hater, eh?

Yes, it's a joke.  It's just so ... perfectly ... awful, on so many levels.  Makes me wish I still worked in an office so I could inflict it on someone besides my wife.

Actually, some excellent desktop backgrounds can be found at http://mandolux.com/

Yea, dual monitors. I love winxp. Special "Zune theme" -- orange start button and charcoal taskbar (with appropriate scenic background pic that matches). I like it.

[come to think of it, when I dye my keys with RIT, I'm going to dye them charcoal with an orange escape key, to match the above :) ]

My primary monitor, in work mode, showing the tools that I tend to use a lot:

1) The terminal, showing a screened Vim session.
2) Cornerstone Subversion client which I mainly use to get pretty diffs of different versions. I use the command line svn client to do most of my interactions with the repository.
3) Firebug. Can't live without this one.

Secondary monitor is pretty boring. I've got the Ext JS API docs open there, and a terminal window tailing the apache error log for the site I'm working on.

I love Blade Runner. I watch it a couple of times of year. I usually rent it and now that I use Netflix its easy to get it delivered. The rip is redundant but its nice to have a local copy.

Someone having a folder for a downloaded rip on their desktop = mildly amusing. (Hide your pirated files before taking screenshots. ;)

I can't find the link right now, but I believe it was on a Dodge Neon forum... someone having a folder named "Shemale Pics" or something like that on their desktop = roflmao worthy. (And googling for it was useless, and will probably make people wonder about my google history. But, I didn't click anything, so... :p)

I didn't look at it like that, but I assure you, I do not have any shemale porn on my computer. Not that I have anything against shemale porn, its just not my thing. I will hide my stolen content in the future. Its not like I don't already own it, I just didn't have the final cut....

I didn't realize that when I posted. I cleaned it up. Feel bad for the guy with the shemale folder.. you could never live that down : )
Thankfully the folder pointing to my goatse collection wasn't on my desktop, now that would be embarrassing.

According to interfacelift it's 9th avenue (maybe there was a joke and I didn't get it).

It appears to be somewhere around 9th and 45th, facing east.

Sadly, the Google vans do not yet get access to the roofs of buildings for a higher vantage point.

It has been shot from the building at the corner of 9th ave and  45th st, looking down 45th towards east:

I think you're right! Nice detective work ;)
So basically its looking roughly in the direction of the times square area (which would be a couple of long blocks east from there, prolly right behind the buildings in the pic).

Was it shot from the NYT building? I know its right in that area somewhere. I think its taller though. (And I dont see the exterior lattice work on it).

Lol, the Milton Plaza is straight ahead (yellow sign in middle of the original picture), and the Sheraton sign is on the left.  We should have read that originally, would have found the pic's location right away ;) Didnt even think to read the signs in the pic!
